✨️*WAKE UP CALL* Philippines Golden Years 💫
We have become numb. We scroll past scandals, we laugh at rivalry, we treat corruption as weather, something that will always be there. We say, "ganun talaga," and move on. That is the sleep we are in.
History in Araling Panlipunan taught us there was a time when the alarm was loud. The name that still wakes us up is former President Ramon Magsaysay.
He was not taught to us as a perfect man, but as a standard. While we are now used to leaders who speak from high walls, he was remembered for opening the gates. While we are now used to leaders who measure gain, he was remembered for measuring who has less and giving them more in law. While we are now used to the noise of rivalry, he was remembered for the quiet work of cleaning, of fixing what was rotten inside.
That memory is our wake up call.
The metaphor is simple. A country is like a house at night. If everyone inside is sleeping, anyone can take anything. Corruption thrives in a sleeping house. Rivalry is just the noise outside that keeps us looking at the window, while the inside is being emptied.
The lesson from that one leader whose name we still recall from elementary is this: public service was not a business, it was a trust. He left office without wealth, but he left the house awake. People believed again because someone showed that it was possible to lead without stealing.
Today, the alarm is ringing again. The question is not who will win the rivalry. The question is whether we will wake up. Because if we keep saying all are the same and there is no exception in our memory, then we have accepted the sleep.
But we do have an exception in our history. And an exception proves that another way is possible.
