Well, cats donโt feel that at all.
Unlike humans and most other mammals, theyโre actually missing the taste receptor for sweetness.
That means when youโre enjoying dessert, your cat has no idea what all the fuss is about. To them, sugar is basically invisible, it doesnโt register as a flavor.
Itโs believed this evolved because cats are obligate carnivores. Their ancestors survived entirely on meat, so they never needed to develop a craving for sugar. Over time, that โsweet tooth geneโ just switched off.
