Through her "yes," she became the mother of the King and our own powerful advocate. Let us honor our Queen by following her example of faith and love.

Jesus ascended into Heaven by His own divine power; Mary was assumed into Heaven by God’s grace. The Ascension happened 40 days after Easter, while the Assumption took place at the end of Mary’s earthly life. Both remind us of our ultimate destiny—to be with God forever in Heaven.

As we celebrate the Solemnity of the Assumption of Mary, never forget the core message of this event in our Catholic faith: that Mary’s assumption to heaven is both a sign of God’s victory over sin and death, and a promise of the glory that awaits all who remain faithful to Christ.

The Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary was already being celebrated on 15 August in the 5th century. It bore the sense of Our Lady’s “Birth into heaven”, or in the Byzantine tradition, her “Dormition”. The feast began to celebrate in Rome in the middle of the 7th century. It was not until 1 November 1950, that Pope Pius XII proclaimed the Dogma of Mary’s assumption body and soul into heaven.
