On the last Sunday of the Christmas season, some parishes shared the beautiful tradition of the Epiphany Proclamation, announcing the dates of the upcoming liturgical feasts for the year. A wonderful reminder of God’s plan unfolding in our lives and the gift of time set apart for His glory.

Christmas is among the most significant days in the Church calendar, second only to Easter. It celebrates the birth of Jesus Christ, the fulfillment of the mystery of the Incarnation: God becoming flesh (from the Latin in carne, meaning “enfleshment”). This is a distinctively Christian belief, highlighting the Divine choosing to become one of us.

We celebrate Mary, Mother of God, because she gave birth to Jesus, who is both true God and true man. Honoring her on this solemnity reminds us of her unique role in God’s plan of salvation and invites us to follow her example of faith, obedience, and trust in God.

As Catholics, we are called to stand for justice and the common good. Just as the prophets spoke out against injustice, and Jesus Himself overturned the tables of greed, we too must raise our voices for truth, transparency, and the dignity of every Filipino.

Today we celebrate the memorial of Our Lady of Sorrows, Mary, who stood faithfully at the foot of the Cross, sharing in the suffering of her Son, Jesus Christ. Her tears remind us that true love is willing to endure pain, and her faith teaches us to trust in God even in the darkest moments of life. Like the Blessed Virgin Mary, we may find strength in our trials and hope in the victory of the Cross.

In many ways, this devotion helps one to reflect on his or her own personal sinfulness. Every human being who ever lived or will live is responsible for the crucifixion of our Lord, as the Catechism states (see No. 598). Therefore, the heart of Mary’s sorrow is found in the harsh reality that her Son was born so as to die — for our sins.

Today, we celebrate the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross. It dates back to the 4th century, when St. Helena, the mother of Emperor Constantine, discovered the True Cross in Jerusalem. Later, the Cross was returned to the Holy City by Emperor Heraclius after it had been taken by invaders. More than a relic of history, the Cross remains for us the sign of Christ’s victory over sin and death, the ultimate symbol of God’s love.

Today we celebrate the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, the sign of God’s immense love and victory over sin and death. May the Cross remind us not of defeat, but of hope, salvation, and eternal life in Christ.

This Feast reminds us of the finding of the true cross in Jerusalem by Empress Helena. The Cross is a powerful statement of the extent of God’s love for us, for each of us, for all of us.

Today we celebrate the birthday of our Blessed Mother Mary. The dawn of our salvation began with her “yes” to God. Happy Birthday, Mama Mary!

Only three birthdays are celebrated on the Church’s liturgical calendar, the Nativity of Our Lord (December 25th), the Nativity of His Forerunner, John the Baptist (June 24th), and the Nativity of His Mother on September 8th. Thus, the Church uniquely honors the three principal figures connected to the Incarnation and the Redemption.

Later, the young Blessed Carlo Acutis will be proclaimed a saint of the Church! At just 15 years old, he showed the world that holiness is possible in our time, loving Jesus in the Eucharist, serving others with joy, and living his faith online and offline.
