This Friday, August 22, 2024, the CSCMINHS held it's kick-off ceremony for the Academic Recovery and Accessible Learning Program, also known as the ARAL program.
Spearheaded by Mrs. Rhea Castillo, Head Teacher I, fully supported by the Principal IV Mr. Nelson Umali, Dr. Severa Versola, PSDS of Rizal Sub-Office, and the SPTA officers, this program is implemented to acknowledge the concerning knowledge gap within the Grade 7 to 10 students.
The Programme for International Student Assessment, otherwise known as PISA, is an exam taken annually by students all over the world. It helps assess how educated students are in that particular country. The Philippines, for one, has sadly been ranking low, often at the bottom of the barrel. To aid that, the Department of Education (DepEd) has launched the ARAL program to help students.
"Lumalabas, pang 98 ang Pilipinas," said Mrs. Castillo, "Kaya ang DepEd, umaksyon na agad."
In correspondence of Republic Act 12028, otherwise known as the 'ARAL Program Act of 2024', is a program that provides additional help to students below their expected grade level of understanding. It is designed to be a free and effective national program to help students attain designated competencies in Languages, Science, and Math.
From recent data obtained by the school from the PHIL-IRI test, as noted by Mrs. Castillo, 27% of the school body composed of 1,282 from Grade Seven to 10 have ranked in the 'Frustration' category, with the largest of 41% of students in the Seventh grade.
"Yung Grade Seven students, three grade levels po pabalik [ang level of comprehension]," Mrs. Castillo starts, emphasizing the sheer gap in knowledge.
Thirty minutes per school day would be added to help the select beneficiaries of ARAL program, with 24 teacher-tutors volunteering to teach them in their respective subjects. Those teaching languages, Filipino and English, would be the ones most concerned of this matter.
"First thirty minutes, talagang ifo-focus po namin ang reading comprehension, dahil dapat maintindihan muna nila ang kanilang binabasa bago nila ma-compute ang isang word problem." she added.
English teacher Mrs. Frennie Matining also contributed ideas and her perspective, saying that, "Ang gagawin namin pong pag-aaral ay hindi po pagbabasa lamang, ngunit tuturuan din po namin silang unawain at i-nurture ang kanilang mga isip."
"Napaka-gandang opportunity ng ARAL program sapagka't nagbibigay ito ng daan upang bawasan ang knowledge gap sa mga estudyante ngayon, lalo na sa ating mga senior high students." Dr. Severa Versola, PSDS of Rizal Sub-Office spoke, supporting Mrs. Castillo's statements regarding the ARAL program.
Additionally, the ARAL Program complements, rather than replaces, daily teaching-learning processes.
