Mt. Everest Records First Foreigner's Death in 2025 Climbing Season
Mount Everest has witnessed its first foreign climber fatality of the 2025 season. Filipino mountaineer Philipp II Santiago, aged 45, tragically lost his life at Camp IV last night while preparing for the final summit push. He was part of the Mountaineering Association of Krishnanagar – Snowy Everest Expedition. The exact cause of his death remains undetermined at this time.
Efforts are currently being coordinated to retrieve and transport his body back to Everest Base Camp.
Earlier in the season, two Sherpa staff members also passed away after being airlifted from Everest Base Camp to HAMS Hospital, underlining the persistent risks and challenges that come with high-altitude expeditions.
Our deepest condolences go out to the families and teams affected by these losses.
