โWith words becoming her wings, Rendy Shane Babela of the College of Teacher Education (CTE) soared to 2nd Place in the Spoken Poetry category during the Cultural Competition held at the FCU Gym, November 7.
Under the guidance of her coach, Dr. Cheryl Rose D. Alipongan, Babela delivered a moving performance centered on this yearโs theme, โUtang na Loob.โ
Her original piece reflected on the true meaning of gratitude not as a debt to be repaid, but as a memory of love, sacrifice, and kindness that must be passed forward.
Through vivid imagery and heartfelt lines, she honored the quiet strength of parents, the wisdom of teachers, and the sincerity of friends who stand by us through every struggle.
โ
โBabela shared that her preparation was filled with sacrifices, including avoiding cold beverages, ice cream, and swimming during her wellness break to protect her voice.
โ
โโThere were nights when I felt tired and sick, but I kept reminding myself why I started,โ Babela said, recalling her journey toward the competition.
โ
โWhen her name was announced as one of the winners, she described the moment as โsurreal,โ saying that every prayer, sacrifice, and sleepless night had finally paid off.
โ
โโThis victory is not just mineโitโs for everyone who believed in me, and for God who never left my side,โ she expressed.
Her triumph serves as an inspiration to fellow Filamerians and aspiring performers to keep pursuing their passions with faith, humility, and heartโbecause true artistry, much like utang na loob, is born from sincerity within.
