We often chase forever in love, in friendships, in dreams. But have we ever wished for forever for nature? ☘️

Every July 28, we celebrate World Nature Conservation Day, a reminder of our unspoken responsibility to preserve and protect the natural environment, and a recognition that a healthy, green planet is the foundation of a flourishing society and economy.

Our world, in this contemporaneity, has already weathered so much. From fuming wildfires to plastic-filled oceans and barren lands to melting glaciers, it has been sending red flags long before it was trendy to ignore them. And just like how we hold tight in soul-draining ties, we keep taking without giving. We tend to forget our responsibilities and instead, penned our promises of green change in the air. But unlike people, nature doesn’t move on. She strikes back and now we are suffering from its calls to serve out.

This World Nature Conservation Day, may we remind ourselves that conservation is not a scientific job, it's our job. By simple steps just like turning off unused lights and resorting to single-use plastics or other greener options, we can make a change. We don't need to be heroes. Sometimes, we just need to be humans who have a heart and soul to care.

Take a pause, It’s self-care o’clock! 💆🏻‍♀️✨

July 24 marks International Self-Care Day, a global nudge to slow down and prioritize your well-being. More than just a date, 7/24 stands as a symbol that self-care isn’t a once-a-year event, it’s a 24/7 commitment to your body, mind, and soul.

Whether it’s hydrating properly, turning off notifications for a while, doing a quick stretch, or even just taking a 5 minute break from your work, self-care doesn’t need to be grand. What matters is you’re doing it for you.

This day shines a light on the small but powerful habits that keep us balanced amid the chaos. It’s about recognizing that caring for yourself is not selfish, it’s essential.

So today, and every day, pause for a moment. Breathe deeply. Listen to what your mind and body need. Because taking care of yourself is the first step in taking care of everything else.

NATIONAL | Gov’t halts classes, offices over Southwest Monsoon

The Office of the President has officially suspended work in government offices and classes at all levels for tomorrow in several provinces and regions due to the continuous heavy rains brought by Southwest Monsoon, July 22.

The suspension, announced through Memorandum Circular No. 90, covers Metro Manila and multiple provinces across Luzon, Visayas, and parts of Mindanao.

According to the released statement of Malacañang, the decision was made upon the recommendation of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC).

Included in the list of affected areas are Pangasinan, Zambales, Antique, Iloilo, Aklan, and other several provinces including Capiz which shall suspend work and classes, as part of wider precautionary measures against the intensified weather conditions.

Despite the suspension, government agencies in the aforementioned areas providing basic, vital, and health services are mandated to continue operations.

Private sector work suspension in these areas will be at the discretion of individual company heads, as per the memorandum.

UNIVERSITY | CHED nods FCU’s 6.6% tuition hike bid

The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) approved Filamer Christian University, Inc.’s (FCU) application for an increase in tuition fee for Academic Year 2025-2026.

CHED limited the tuition hike to 6.6% to ensure the affordability of education in line with Region VI’s inflation rate.

FCU’s administration met faculty and student leaders last January 24 to discuss the hike which is due to rising operational costs, facility upgrades, inflation, enhanced academic programs, compliance and regulatory costs, and scholarship and financial aid programs.

Prior to passing the application, FCU ensured adherence to the consultation processes and agreements outlined by CHED’s guidelines on tuition hikes.

CHED Memorandum Order guidelines state that 70% of tuition hikes go to faculty and staff salary and benefits, 20% to university facilities, and 10% to school discretion.

“These faculty members are specialists in their fields and deserve fair compensation. If we don’t allow room for increases within reasonable limits, we risk losing qualified educators,” CHED-6 Director Dr. Raul Alvarez Jr. said.

Alvarez assured students that CHED-6 will closely monitor how universities approved for the tuition hike spend extra funds.

Across Region VI, at least 18 private schools were approved for tuition increase.

Aside from FCU, in Capiz, Colegio de la Purisima Concepcion, College of St. John-Roxas, Hercor College, and St. Anthony College of Roxas City will implement a tuition hike.

A total of 22 tuition hike applications were passed to CHED within Western Visayas, four of which were denied.

NATIONAL | ABS-CBN to leave Quezon HQ by 2026

QUEZON CITY, Philippines — ABS-CBN is set to leave its Quezon Headquarters after striking a P6.2 billion deal with Ayala Land, Inc.

This comes due to the mounting debt ABS-CBN is facing which has been cut to P13 billion after the deal.

Ayala Land, Inc. now owns at least 30,000 square meters of ABS-CBN’s 4.4-hectare base which includes the main broadcast building, Dolphy Theatre, Millennium Transmitter, and other studio spaces.

ABS-CBN President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Carlo Katigbak plans to move all operations to the remaining 1.4-hectare Eugenio Lopez Jr. (ELJ) Communications Center which will serve as the company’s new headquarters.

“The remaining 1.4 hectares, which ABS-CBN will keep, consist of the ELJ Communications Center and the studios that are located in it. We will be consolidating all our operations and studios inside the ELJ Communications Center and plan to complete this move by July 2026,” Katigbak said.

Ayala Land, Inc. has yet to share their plans for their purchased land but have hinted at “unique” projects.

“We would like to make something unique in that area, given it’s quite a busy area and there are a few other developments there,” Ayala Land, Inc. President and CEO Anna Ma Margarita Dy said.

ABS-CBN has no plans of returning to free media even if granted a new franchise by Congress.

Hap-PI 22/7 Day! 🎉

It’s Pi Approximation day, a fun and informal way of commemorating the property of Pi (π).

Also known as Casual Pi Day, the date 22/7, or July 22, are numbers which correspond to the fractional value of π. This day is dedicated to the famous mathematical constant and for math enthusiasts, teachers, and students to appreciate the existence and significance of this fundamental constant.

Did you know: The symbol (π) was devised by British mathematician William Jones in 1706, and was later on popularised by Swiss mathematician Leonhard Euler. This symbol represents the ratio of the circumference of any circle to the diameter of that circle, which is called “Pi”.

If you love math or once loved it, then this is your day. Send your math teachers a special Happy Pi Approximation Day greeting!

The moon looks beautiful, doesn’t it?

The night sky’s moon has been witness of humanity’s tears on lonely nights, soft whispers before sleep, and the shift of the world’s tides. For some, it is the cause of poetry, for others, spirituality. However for many, the moon is a landmark of humanity’s leap towards the future.

July 20 is recognized as the International Moon Day by the United Nations General Assembly. The day is celebrated in commemoration of when humans first landed on the moon as part of the Apollo 11 lunar mission in 1969.

Famously, Neil Armstrong was the first man to step foot on the moon. He spent two and a half hours outside of their spacecraft. Buzz Aldrin would follow Armstrong to collect lunar material for scientists to analyze back on Earth.

Since then, multiple attempts at landing humanity back on the moon would be put into motion. However, we have not been able to land due to rising costs and low political will.

Despite humanity’s hunger for knowledge of our moon, this day reminds us to carry out sustainable and responsible exploration and future utilization of lunar resources in our future missions.
