At a time when many politicians are often seen surrounded by bodyguards, staff, and large entourages, Congressman Atty. Nat Oducado of 1Tahanan Partylist was recently spotted walking alone at the Roxas City Esplanade.

No bodyguards. No convoy. No special treatment. Just a simple public servant casually walking alone like any ordinary person.

Many residents admired the congressmanโ€™s humility and approachable personality. Despite holding a high position in government, Cong. Oducado chooses to live simply and avoids being โ€œmaarteโ€ or demanding special attention. He believes that it is the people who deserve to be treated special more than himself.

His simple gesture became a reminder that true leadership is not measured by power, luxury, or the number of people surrounding you. A real leader is someone who remains grounded, listens to the people, and stays connected to the community no matter how high their position may be.

Through that quiet walk at the Roxas City Esplanade, many were inspired and reminded that there are still public officials who genuinely serve with humility, sincerity, and compassion for the people.

1Tahanan Partylist Rep. Nathan Oducado called for immediate government action as rising fuel prices continue to hurt fishing operations and threaten the supply of fish in markets across the country.

Oducado said many fishing operators are now struggling to keep their boats at sea because of the high cost of fuel, placing the livelihood of thousands of workers and fisherfolk families at risk. He warned that if the problem is not addressed soon, consumers may also face higher fish prices and lower supply.

โ€œWhen boats stop operating, it affects the entire chain from fishers to vendors and ordinary families who depend on affordable food,โ€ Oducado said. โ€œThis is no longer just an industry problem. It is a national concern.โ€

Reports from fishing groups in General Santos City showed that several tuna fleet operations have already been suspended, while many handline vessels have also halted operations because expenses can no longer be sustained.

The lawmaker said the slowdown has already reduced fish unloadings in key landing areas, a sign that supply pressures are beginning to grow.

To help stabilize the sector, Oducado backed proposals from industry leaders for temporary unloading support and fuel assistance so operators can continue fishing and workers can keep their jobs.

โ€œThese are practical steps that can give immediate relief while the sector recovers,โ€ he said. โ€œWe need to help keep boats running and fish prices affordable.โ€

Oducado also stressed that the impact goes beyond fishing communities, as many workers in transport, processing, retail, and local markets also depend on a stable fisheries industry.

He said soaring fuel prices have become one of the biggest burdens for operators, making regular fishing trips increasingly difficult.

โ€œIf we want food security, we must protect the people who bring food to our tables,โ€ Oducado said. โ€œThe time to act is now.โ€

As the country marks Labor Day, 1Tahanan Partylist Rep. Atty. Nat Oducado urged lawmakers to focus on measures that will give Filipino workers greater security, better benefits, and stronger protection from financial hardship.

Oducado said workers need more than income increases. He stressed that many Filipinos also need stable jobs, proper leave benefits, and safeguards against practices that keep families struggling despite hard work.

โ€œLabor Day should be a reminder that workers deserve lasting support, not just words of appreciation,โ€ Oducado said.

Among the measures he highlighted was House Bill No. 6960, which seeks to grant civil service eligibility to qualified long serving casual and contractual government employees. He said the proposal would recognize years of dedication and help many public workers gain more secure employment.

He also pushed for House Bill No. 8741, which seeks to expand paid service incentive leave. According to Oducado, workers need enough time to rest, recover, and care for their families in order to remain productive and healthy.

Another measure he cited was House Bill No. 6980, which aims to regulate excessive charges, penalties, and surcharges on loans and credit obligations. He said many workers fall into debt because of unfair lending practices that reduce their already limited income.

Oducado also pointed to House Bill No. 6968, which seeks to improve access to fair and affordable financing for small businesses and aspiring entrepreneurs. He said many workers dream of starting their own livelihood but lack the financial support to begin.

The 1Tahanan lawmaker said worker welfare should include job security, financial protection, and opportunities to build a better future for their families.

โ€œOur workers continue to carry the nation through their sacrifice and effort,โ€ Oducado said. โ€œThe least we can do is pass laws that protect them and give them a fair chance to succeed.โ€
