The State University of Northern Negros โ€“ College of Fisheries and Allied Sciences (SUNN-CFAS), led by CFAS Dean Dr. Abegail A. Gelantaga-An, and Dr. Quiressa Mae C. Montaรฑo, Program Chairperson of CFAS, was presented with a Plaque of Appreciation by the Provincial Environment Management Office (PEMO) during the 2025 EcoLuminaries: Abanse Negrense Environmental Awards held on October 29, 2025, at the SMX Convention Center, Bacolod City.

In the same event, the Lapus-Lapus Floating Cottage Association in Barangay Bulanon, Sagay City, in partnership with the SUNNโ€“CFAS, proudly received the Best in Baganihan sa Kadagatan Awardโ€” a true testament to the power of partnership in coastal and marine protection.

The College of Fisheries and Allied Sciences (CFAS) of the State University of Northern Negros (SUNN) marked the 62nd Fish Conservation Week with a coastal cleanup activity in Old Sagay.

The initiative was spearheaded by Dean Dr. Abegail A. Gelantaga-an, together with the support of the Philippine Coast Guard and the Barangay Chairman. The cleanup aimed to highlight the importance of conservation and sustainability in protecting the aquatic environment.

The activity was deemed a success, reflecting the collective commitment of the university and its partners to safeguard marine resources for future generations.

The sea creatures arise from the deep sea to showcase their unique and artistic work from recycled materials on the 62nd Fish Conservation RUNWAY. The event starts with the bright smiles and loud energetic shouts from different tribes. They start walking on the stage with their costumes and bold confidence. The representing tribes: Tribu Tahong, Tribu Lapu-Lapu, Tribu Danggit, Tribu Talaba, Tribu Ulang, Tribu Managat, Tribu Pantat, Tribu Diwal, Tribu Kabibe, and the last tribe to represent is the Tribu Apahap.

The battle was a blast indeed! As each tribe stormed through every question, you could see sweat on their foreheads as they fought to get the right answer. The crowds screamed for their tribeโ€”only to get the wrong one. But each team persevered until the difficult round. The top five teams climbed their way to the final round.

Their minds could not be easily broken, even as a tie loomed in the final round. But a question from Sir Rey Lagutin broke the deadlock.
