Cinematahum 2024: A Celebration of Western Visayas in Film
Cinematahum 2024, the film festival dedicated to showcasing the culture and stories of Western Visayas, is back with 25 exciting films from the region. The festival will take place across several locations, offering audiences a chance to experience the diverse narratives of Western Visayas through local cinema.
The festival's lineup covers a range of genres and themes, including family, identity, tradition, and the impact of modernity on rural communities. It is a celebration of regional filmmaking, highlighting the region's rich cultural heritage and everyday life.
One of the anticipated films is "Hilan", directed by Rafael Amit Jr., which is the only film representing Negros Occidental this year. The film delves into family, loss, and longing themes, set against the backdrop of Escalante City's Balaring Cave.
The festival will feature screenings at several locations:
-October 26 at the MILC, UPV Miagao
-November 8 and 9 at the UPV Extension Campus, Pandan, Antique
-November 14-16 at the UPV Cinematheque, Iloilo
In addition to Hilan, films from other Western Visayas provinces will be featured, including works from Iloilo, Aklan, Capiz, and Antique, each offering a unique perspective on life in the region.
