Sidlak Adlaw Productions takes center stage at Cinematahum 2024, showcasing the debut film, Hilan, a compelling exploration of local identity and cultural resilience of Western Visayas.

The festival also featured insightful film talks led by industry veterans, including renowned director Ditsi Carolino, whose works often focus on social issues, and Glenn Barit, a rising star in Filipino filmmaking. They offered audiences a deeper understanding of the art and process behind Filipino cinema.

Adding to the event’s prestige was a special talk by Ricky Lee, a legendary scriptwriter in the Philippine film industry. His contribution to films like Himala (1982), Sandakot Na Bala (1988), Dyesebel (1990), Juan Tamad at Mister Shooli: Mongolian Barbecue (1991), Mayor Cesar Climaco (1994), The Flor Contemplacion Story (1995), Patayin sa Sindak si Barbara (1995), and Madrasta (1996) has shaped the landscape of Filipino storytelling. His insights into writing for film surely inspired both aspiring and established filmmakers alike.

Cinematahum 2024: A Celebration of Western Visayas in Film

Cinematahum 2024, the film festival dedicated to showcasing the culture and stories of Western Visayas, is back with 25 exciting films from the region. The festival will take place across several locations, offering audiences a chance to experience the diverse narratives of Western Visayas through local cinema.

The festival's lineup covers a range of genres and themes, including family, identity, tradition, and the impact of modernity on rural communities. It is a celebration of regional filmmaking, highlighting the region's rich cultural heritage and everyday life.

One of the anticipated films is "Hilan", directed by Rafael Amit Jr., which is the only film representing Negros Occidental this year. The film delves into family, loss, and longing themes, set against the backdrop of Escalante City's Balaring Cave.

The festival will feature screenings at several locations:

-October 26 at the MILC, UPV Miagao
-November 8 and 9 at the UPV Extension Campus, Pandan, Antique
-November 14-16 at the UPV Cinematheque, Iloilo

In addition to Hilan, films from other Western Visayas provinces will be featured, including works from Iloilo, Aklan, Capiz, and Antique, each offering a unique perspective on life in the region.

Cinematahum 2024 is an opportunity to discover the heart of Western Visayas through the lens of its talented filmmakers. Whether you’re a local or a visitor, the festival provides a unique opportunity to experience the region’s stories and culture on the big screen.

"Hilan" - a captivating short film shot in the breathtaking Balaring Cave in Brgy. Binaguohan, Escalante City.

As the characters navigate their emotional journeys, the lush landscape serves as both a character and a metaphor. Premiering at the Cinematahum Film Festival at the Cinemateque, UPV from November 14-16, "Hilan" promises to engage audiences with its artistry and poignant themes.
