UE ANNOUNCES EXCEPTIONS TO ONLINE CLASS SETUP

While most classes in the University of the East (UE) Manila and Caloocan campuses will shift to online synchronous on October 15 to 18, Wednesday to Saturday, some colleges will hold face-to-face sessions.

The College of Dentistry (CDent) will conduct in-person classes “with leniency” on the said dates.

First-year Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) students will follow an online synchronous setup.

The College of Education (CEduc) will proceed with its laboratory classes and the “Weigh to Go” program onsite as scheduled.

Meanwhile, College of Engineering (CEng’g)-Manila classes of all major subjects will be held face-to-face.

In addition, the College of Business Administration (CBA)-Manila will push through with its thesis defense sessions on-campus on Saturday, October 18.

For the College of Computer Studies and Systems (CCSS), classes on October 17 to 18, Friday and Saturday, will be conducted asynchronously.

K to 12-Manila classes tomorrow, October 15, will also be asynchronous.

UE offices on both campuses will remain open as usual from October 15 to 17, Wednesday to Friday.

ONLINE CLASSES UNTIL OCT. 18

The University of the East (UE) will extend online classes for "all applicable courses” until Saturday, October 18, due to the recent increase in flu cases, according to a memorandum issued by President Zosimo Battad.

“This decision prioritizes the health and safety of our students, faculty, and staff while ensuring continuity in learning,” the memo read.

Battad said that courses requiring face-to-face instruction, such as laboratory-based/clinical classes and other hands-on training, will continue on-site under strict health protocols.

“We urge everyone to remain vigilant, practice good hygiene, and stay home if feeling unwell. Faculty members are encouraged to maintain flexibility and provide support to students affected by illness,” the memo stated.

"Further updates will be communicated as necessary. Thank you for your continued cooperation and commitment to our shared well-being. Stay safe and healthy," it added.

SHIFT ALL CLASSES TO ONLINE SYNCH UNTIL OCT. 18, UE! 📣‼️

The Central Student Council (CSC) and college councils have appealed to the University of the East (UE) Administration to shift all classes to online synchronous from October 15 to 18, Wednesday to Saturday, due to the surge of influenza-like illnesses.

In a letter to UE President Zosimo Battad, the student councils stressed that the request was made in response to the “serious and widespread health concerns” currently affecting various individuals in Metro Manila.

“The escalating public health issue involving severe influenza-like illnesses requires us to take immediate, responsible action to protect everyone on campus,” the letter read.

The councils noted that recent data showed a significant spike in influenza-like illnesses in Quezon City, with incidence rates reaching roughly 40 percent as of March 2, 2025—a sharp increase from the previous year.

According to the CSC and college councils, the situation has already taken a toll on the students and faculty members, with an estimated eight out of 10 students per classroom reportedly experiencing flu-like symptoms over the past weeks.

The Caloocan-based student groups also urged the administration to conduct “thorough, professional cleaning and disinfection of all university facilities.”

In addition, the councils called for the refilling and provision of hand sanitizers in classrooms and strategic common areas to ensure a safe return once face-to-face classes resume.

“This weeklong temporary shift is a smart, preventive measure. It demonstrates proactive leadership and is the most effective way to help break the chain of infection, protect our faculty and staff, and confirm that the health and safety of every person at this University are our absolute top priority,” the letter stated.

The CSC and college councils asserted that transitioning to online synchronous learning will “maintain instructional progress while minimizing health risks.”

“This decision will prevent possible large-scale absences, ensure that learning outcomes remain on track, and uphold the university's reputation for prioritizing both excellence and well-being,” the student councils said.

TESTIMONIAL BANQUET FOR NEW BOARD PASSERS 🥂🎉

The University of the East (UE) College of Fine Arts, Architecture and Design (CFAD) hosted a testimonial banquet to honor the passers of the 2025 licensure examinations for architects, interior designers, and master plumbers.

Dubbed “Dayaw 3.0: From Aspiration to Achievement – Honoring Triumph with Gratitude,” the luncheon was held on Friday, October 3, at the Chua King Ha Galleries, Tan Yan Kee Academic Building in UE Caloocan.

The event featured the pinning of the architecture and interior design board passers and the donning ceremony of Jio Aron Rosada, who ranked seventh in the July 2025 Master Plumber Licensure Examinations.

“More than just a recognition of professional achievement, Dayaw 3.0 stands as a tribute to the perseverance, dedication, and excellence of our graduates who continue to bring honor to UE and CFAD – the Home of Achievers, Destined for Greatness,” CFAD said.

UE President Zosimo Battad, UE-Caloocan Chancellor Victor Macam, CFAD Dean Don Amorsolo, and former CFAD Dean Celino Santiago were present during the testimonial banquet.

CALL FOR TIMELY ANNOUNCEMENTS, CONSIDERATION FOR STUDENTS 📣‼️

The University Student Council (USC) and college councils have urged the University of the East (UE) Administration to release all announcements on learning modalities in a prompt and timely manner.

In a letter addressed to UE President Zosimo Battad, the student councils raised concerns over the lack of timeliness in the dissemination of announcements, which they said has “resulted in confusion and undue stress among both students and parents.”

“There have been instances where announcements are made early in the morning—when students have already prepared for classes or are already commuting to the campus,” the letter read.

The councils stressed that timely communication would “help prevent unnecessary expenses, miscommunication, and inconvenience to both students and faculty members.”

“We sincerely hope that this concern will be regarded with urgency and thoughtful consideration,” the letter added.

CALL TO SHIFT LEARNING MODALITY TO ASYNCH 📣‼️

The University Student Council (USC) and college councils have urged the University of the East (UE) Administration to shift to asynchronous classes on October 13 to 14, Monday and Tuesday.

In a letter to UE President Zosimo Battad, the student councils appealed to conduct classes asynchronously during the said dates due to the increasing cases of influenza-like illnesses and series of earthquakes in the country.

“Holding classes asynchronously during this period would not only reflect our commitment to health and safety but would also be in accordance with DepEd’s guidance to implement Alternative Delivery Modalities,” the letter read.

The student-led groups also requested for leniency in attendance and completion of activities for the students affected by the influenza.

“We hope you will consider providing flexible deadlines, which would greatly help ease the pressure on our fellow students as they recover and prioritize their health,” the councils said.

Transport group Manibela also announced that it will be holding a three-day transport strike from October 13 to 15, Monday to Wednesday.

TRANSPORT STRIKE ALERT 🚨

Transport group Manibela will hold a three-day transport strike from October 13 to 15, Monday to Wednesday.

The transport strike is in protest against the Department of Transportation-Special Action and Intelligence Committee for Transportation’s (DOTr-SAICT) unfair ticketing practices and excessive fines to drivers.

“This is due to the continuous pressure and torture by the DOTr-SAICT on drivers who, even though their vehicles or units are complete and in good condition, are still being ticketed and fined heavily,” Manibela said.

A protest action will take place at 6 am tomorrow, October 13, at the Petron-Commonwealth Avenue Philcoa in Quezon City.

MISSED CHANCES 🤕

The University of the East (UE) men’s and junior high school boys’ basketball teams absorbed tough defeats against the Adamson University (AdU) at the Ateneo Blue Eagle Gym on Saturday, October 11.

The Red Warriors were caught off guard in the opening frame as the Soaring Falcons’ fast-paced offense and tight defense buried them in an early 14-point hole, 15–29.

By halftime, UE’s offense remained stagnant, with only Precious Momowei, John Abate, and DJ Robles contributing to the scoreboard as they trailed further, 25–45.

With 2:35 left in the third quarter, UE capitalized on key calls against Adamson and mounted a late surge behind Abate, Wello Lingolingo, and Kristoper Lagat, who sank consecutive triples and free throws to seize a slim 58–57 lead entering the final frame.

However, the Soaring Falcons wasted no time reclaiming control in the fourth, as Austin Ronzone and Cedrick Manzano converted crucial layups that left the Red Warriors struggling to respond.

UE eventually succumbed, 62–77, and fell to 0–5 in the standings, still in search of their first win of the season.

Meanwhile, the Junior Warriors fought valiantly against the Baby Falcons in a nail-biting encounter.

Goodluck Okebata sparked UE’s offense with nine points in the opening quarter, keeping the Warrior dribblers within reach at 20–25.

Momentum briefly swung in UE’s favor in the second half, with Zion Aguilar, James Mesa, and Sean Felizmenia leading the charge in transition to grab a narrow lead before AdU countered with timely baskets to stay ahead, 53–62.

The Junior Warriors clawed back to force overtime at 76-all, turning the extra period into a thriller, but the Baby Falcons escaped with an 83–82 win off a decisive turnaround jumper.

With the heartbreaking loss, the defending champions dropped to a 3–2 record.

The Red and Junior Warriors will look to bounce back as they clash with the De La Salle University (DLSU) Green Archers and De La Salle Zobel (DLSZ) Junior Archers on Wednesday, October 15, at the Mall of Asia Arena.
