TC Holds Consultation on Proposed Tuition Fee Increase

Tañon College conducted a consultation meeting on January 31, 2025, in the Audiovisual Room to discuss a proposed 3% increase in tuition, miscellaneous, and other fees.

The meeting was attended by the school administrator, finance officer, PTA president, program heads, school registrar, student council president, and other school staff. Discussions focused on the basis for the proposed increase and its alignment with the guidelines set by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED).

The session began with the reading of the acknowledgment letter from CHED Regional Office VI. This was followed by the administration explaining that the proposed increase is based on the regional inflation rate and CHED policies, which encourage schools to adjust fees accordingly to maintain quality education and operational sustainability.

School Administrator Arsenio A. Bascara assured the community that the institution remains committed to its mission of providing accessible, quality education. “We will continue to uphold our legacy of excellence and ensure that this adjustment benefits both students and staff”, sir Bascara stated.

Tañon College Supreme Student Council (TCSSC) President and The Channel’s Editor-in-Chief (EIC), Ed Michael A. Brasona, representing the student body, expressed support for the proposal as long as it remains fair. “As long as the increase is reasonable, I will support it. We shall protect the welfare of the students, and to ensure this, we made sure to represent their voices well”, Brasona said.

The school’s proposal will be forwarded to the CHED regional office for review and approval. If granted, the increase will take effect in Academic Year (AY) 2025-2026.

The meeting concluded with all parties being amenable to the proposed increase, with no opposition raised. The final decision now rests with CHED’s approval.

TC Organizes HIV/AIDS Awareness Campaign

Tañon College organized a Human Immunodeficiency Virus/Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (HIV/AIDS) awareness campaign on January 31, 2025, at 3:00 PM, held at the TC gymnasium.

First-year college students and members of the Supreme Student Council (SSC) participated in the campaign, aimed to increase the awareness about HIV/AIDS.

The symposium was led by the City Health Office (CHO) through the initiative of the Health Services Unit of TC headed by Ma. Scylla Villarante. The event started with an introduction to the several types of transmitted illnesses by Dennis Villasor, the Health Education Promotion Officer (HEPO).

Wilma Oprasia, the HIV Coordinator, then carried on the discussion regarding preventing HIV/AIDS, reducing stigma, and current HIV/AIDS information.

Moreover, students also questioned the city health staff about HIV/AIDS in a variety of situations. Along with spreading awareness, Mrs. Wilma Oprasia said, the three modes of transmission of HIV are through s*x, blood, and breast milk of the mother.

The campaign concluded with the San Carlos City Health Office (SCCHO) receiving a certificate of appreciation and acknowledgment for their participation and support.

Local Offices Conducts Anti Illegal Drug Awareness Symposium for Youth

The San Carlos City Anti-Drug Abuse Council (SCCADAC) hosted a drug prevention symposium on January 24, 2025, at the Tañon College gymnasium.

The event gathered Grade 9 and 10 students, college class leaders, and members of the Tañon College Supreme Student Council (TCSSC) to discuss drug awareness and prevention.

Police Master Sergeant Ma. Filomena R. Flores, Chief of Police Community Relations, explained the types of drugs, their uses, and the legal consequences of misuse under Republic Act No. 9165, or the Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

SCCADAC Facilitator Renbert R. De Leon elaborated on the harmful effects of drugs and strategies to prevent substance abuse.

City Health Office Sanitary Inspector Dennis Villasor highlighted the physical, mental, and emotional impacts of drug use on individuals, families, and communities. He encouraged students to adopt healthier choices.

The symposium aimed to raise awareness among students about the dangers of drug use and its far-reaching consequences. It provided attendees with valuable insights to make informed decisions and contribute to building safer communities.

Milestone Achieved: TC Hosts CBA Pinning Ceremony

Tañon College held its Pinning Ceremony for the Bachelor of Science in Business Administration students on 6th of January 2024 at TC Gym. The theme was “Transforming Lives: Facing Tomorrow’s Challenges”, which showed students transitioned into the practicum stage of their academic career.

The event started with a marching procession at 3:00 PM to make way for the pinning ceremony. Dr. Ma. Stella Flordeliz-Lezama, Dean of College of Business Administration (CBA) made an opening speech talking about the significance of the pinning ceremony. She stated “A man can be what he wants to be or what he wants to become by hardwork”, illustrating the significance of determination in future endeavors.

Pastor Kimberly Palantang conducted the Thanksgiving Service, underscoring the importance of the occasion. She noted, "As we come together today, we are reminded of the sacredness of moments like this—moments that mark transformation of purpose and calling," encouraging reflection on the purpose and responsibilities associated with the ceremony.

The program proceeded with the singing of the Philippine National Anthem, followed by a welcome address delivered by Mrs. Cynthia A. Sanchez, representing the Board of Trustees and then Mr. Mark Descartin, was introduced as he talked as the guest speaker.

The event then moved to the pinning ceremony, officiated by Mr. Arsenio A. Bascara Jr., the School Administrator, and Dr. Ma. Stella Flordeliz-Lezama, Dean of the CBA. The ceremony symbolized an important milestone for the students as they prepared to transition into their professional roles.

“I felt very happy and proud - it was mixed emotions, actually” shared Karl C. Capada, a fourth-year Marketing Management major student.

“The event was well-organized, with the usherettes providing full support and ensuring everything ran smoothly” said Agnes Faith Martinez, a fourth-year Financial Management major student.

The pinning ceremony represented a milestone for the students as well as a shared victory for the faculty and staff responsible for organizing the event. The ceremony concluded with the students embracing their next chapter, with a sense of purpose.

TC Celebrates Pinning and Inaugural Candle Lighting Ceremony

On November 30, 2024, at 4:00 PM, Tañon College held its Pinning and first-ever Candle Lighting Ceremony at the Ma. Cecilia del Castillo Community Center, to celebrate the hard work and dedication of the graduating students.

The ceremony was attended by graduating education students, third-year education students, parents, faculty, staff, and the school administrator.

The program commenced with a processional march of the graduating students accompanied by their parents. This was followed by the singing of the Philippine National Anthem, led by Mr. Ulysses G. Piral, and an invocation performed by Mr. Manuel IV Bayawa, a fourth-year Filipino major student.

Dr. Chona J. Bistis, Dean of the College of Teacher Education, delivered a welcome address. Dr. Elizabeth E. Carbajosa, Head of the English Department, then introduced the occasion and its significance.

The pinning of the educational emblem, a symbolic gesture marking the transition into the professional phase of their journey, followed. Parents joined their children at this moment.

As introduced by Dr. Cleopatra A. Alegrado, Head of the Filipino Department, Mrs. Cynthia A. Sanchez, the event's guest speaker and former TC administrator, delivered her speech that commended both the graduating and third-year students for their dedication and passion for the teaching profession.

She encouraged junior college students to embrace their journey as a challenge and advised graduating students to view it as an opportunity for growth and success.

"So as you look forward to the new chapter in your life, it is our hope that you will use your talents, knowledge, and learning for the betterment of your homes, your community, and country", said Mrs. Sanchez.

The inaugural candle lighting ceremony followed the pinning. Dr. Generosa M. Nillama, General Education Department Program Head, led the prayer that initiated the lighting of the candles. In this symbolic act, senior and junior students exchanged messages, promising to keep the light of passion and dedication burning bright.

"It was quite overwhelming. Though it wasn’t perfectly synchronized, the ceremony went well overall", shared Missy Esperanza, a fourth-year English major student.

The event concluded with closing remarks from Mr. Arsenio A. Bascara Jr., the school administrator.

This landmark ceremony emphasized the significance of honoring the achievements of graduating students. It highlighted their commitment and dedication to their chosen profession and the core values of compassion and service that will guide them as they continue their journey.

TC Celebrates World Mental Health Day: Prioritizing Well-Being in the Workplace

On October 10, 2024, Tañon College joined the global celebration of World Mental Health Day with the theme, “It is Time to Prioritize Mental Health in the Workplace.” Led by the Peer Facilitators Organization (high school students) and the Tañon College Guidance Center, the institution launched a campaign to emphasize the importance of mental health within the school community, particularly among faculty and staff.

One of the highlights of the celebration was the free pantry exclusively for the Tañon faculty and staff. This initiative aimed to provide them a chance to unwind and feel appreciated for their dedication and hard work.

The Peer Facilitators took an active role in spreading awareness, visiting each classroom to greet students warmly and share insights about the significance of the event. They also brighten the campus with a gesture, the pinning of green ribbons–an international symbol of mental health awareness—on faculty and staff members, symbolizing the institution’s care and support for their mental well-being.

To extend the celebration further, on October 30, 2024, at 2:00 PM, the TC Guidance Center organized a symposium titled “Building Resilience for Academic and Mental Wellness.” Held at the school’s gymnasium, the event focused on first-year college students, offering them insights on managing academic pressures and life stresses. The symposium aimed to help students become more resilient and adjust to college life.

Through these efforts, TC showed its dedication to mental health in the school community. By fostering a supportive and mentally healthy environment for both students and staff, TC set an example of prioritizing mental health, creating a supportive and nurturing environment where well-being comes first.

Pasidungog sa mga Magtutudlo: TC Celebrates World Teachers' Day

Tañon College celebrated World Teacher's Day on October 7, 2024, at 5:00 P.M. held at the school gymnasium with the theme "Pasidungog sa mga Magtutudlo" to honor the commitment and dedication of the TC faculty and staff.

The program began with an invocation, followed by the singing of the national anthem performed by the Pasundayag Choir. The teachers marched as the Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC) executed a crossed-sword routine to honor the sacrifices of the school's faculty and staff.

Rheana T. Loquinario, Tañon College Supreme Student Council (TCSSC) Vice President delivered the opening message, expressing gratitude towards both teaching and non-teaching staff. Romel T. Lariosa, TCSSC College of Teacher Education (CTE) Governor, shared his appreciation by acknowledging the dedication of the teachers. Agnes Faith B. Martinez, TCSSC College of Business Administration (CBA) Governor also promulgated the influence that teachers brought in shaping the lives of the students.

The TCSSC also organized a grand raffle exclusive for TC faculty and staff. Homeylin U. Birondo, a College Department instructor, won the grand prize—a ₱1,000 gift certificate, which can be claimed at Gaisano Grand Capital.

Next, TC teachers accompanied by the Tañon College Dance Company (TCDC) showcased their energy and enthusiasm as they moved their hips to "Pantropiko" by Bini.

Shania Albiar and Crose Cabales, freshmen students from Bachelor of Secondary Education (BSED) English showcased their talents through dance intermission. Meanwhile, Janice Balasabas, a sophomore student from BSED majoring in Filpino, Liezel Batohan, a junior from Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (BSBA) major in Marketing Management, and Emmanuel Palabrica, a BSBA Financial Management freshman captivated the audience with a musical performance dedicated for the teachers.

The students displayed their appreciation towards the teachers by offering a bouquet, chocolates, handwritten letters and hugs. They also posed for photos to commemorate the occasion. The Pasundayag Choir also sang "In This Moment" by Alison Wang as a tribute to the teachers, recognizing their hard work and dedication to educate the students.

The program culminated with closing remarks from Ed Michael A. Brasona, TCSSC President. "To our teachers, thank you for believing in us. To my fellow future teachers, we owe it to our future students to also believe in them," Brasona said in his speech.

Tañonians Excels in City-wide Quiz Bowl Competition

Tañon College students, Vieme Nengasca and Francine Grace Broce excelled in the Tourism Quiz Competition - College Category during the Tourism Week 2024 celebration organized by the Local Government Unit of San Carlos City last September 4, 2024 held at the City Mall Activity Center.

Vieme Nengasca, a fourth-year Bachelor of Secondary Education major in English student, clinched 1st Place, while Francine Grace Broce, a third-year Bachelor of Science in Business Administration major in Marketing Management student, secured 3rd Place in the competition.

Their exceptional performance was officially recognized during the Tourism Excellence Awards Night on September 27, 2024, at Park Marina. The students were accompanied by the esteemed College of Business Administration Dean, Dr. Ma. Stella Flordeliz-Lezama, as they received their awards.

The entire Tañon College community commends Vieme and Francine for their dedication, hard work, and outstanding accomplishments, which have brought great pride and honor to the institution.

TC Holds Successful Founder’s Day Parade Despite the Odds

Originally set for September 2, 2024, the Tañon College Founders Day Parade has been rescheduled to September 5, 2024, following the cancellation of school activities due to weather-related matters.

The parade started at 8:00 AM with students assembling at the TC grounds. Following the designated route, the parade marched through Carmona Street, turned left to Bruce Street, another left to Locsin Street and stopped at the San Carlos City Auditorium.

The order of the parade was led by the parade marshall, followed by the Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC) and the TC Drum and Bugle Corps. Among the participants were Jyziel Alegado, Miss Tañon 2024, Parent–Teacher Association (PTA) representatives, Grade 7 to Grade 10 students, senior high students, along with Congressman Vicente Gustillo Sr. Memorial School (CVGMS) Drum and Bugle Corps. The College Department, Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (BSBA) Financial Management followed by the Marketing Management and Education students led by the Bachelor of Secondary Education (BSED) followed by the Bachelor of Elementary Education (BEED), with their designated departmental shirts—yellow for College of Business Administration (CBA) and blue for the College of Teacher Education (CTE).

The event concluded with cheers and smiles as the community celebrated the playground demonstration leading to the success of the day. Despite the earlier delay, the event succeeded with the help of One Tañonian Community.

Miss Tañon Search Returns on Stage

The Miss Tañon pageant returned on stage last September 4, 2024, 6:00 PM at the San Carlos City Auditorium after a five-year hiatus.

Tañon College Pasundayag Choir led the invocation and the Philippine National Anthem. This was followed by a message from school administrator Mr. Arsenio Bascara Jr. and a welcome address by the master of ceremonies, Mr. B**g Laguda, who spoke about the pageant’s return. Then, the Tañon College Pasundayag Dance Troupe prepared a dance intermission.

Marchella Joy Diaz represented Junior High School Department, Jyziel Alegado for Senior High School Department, Aejeas Sabijon from the English Department, Shaira Eramis from Filipino Department, Rosegen Baran from Math Department , Legie Mae Talledo Elementary Education Department and Princess Eunice Orquiza represented Financial Management Department took part in a production number.

After the playsuit presentations, the first set of minor awards were announced. Sabijon received titles including Miss Professionalism, Miss BXY Driving School, Miss Shoeverse, and Miss Jeti Gas Station. Moreover, Eramis was awarded Miss Congeniality and Miss Photogenic, while Alegado won the People’s Choice Award and other distinctions.

The Junior High School Chorale Group, winners of the Musical Night competition, also performed before the talent portion.

The long gown competition was preceded by a musical performance from Ms. Cydel Gabutero, grand winner of The Voice Teens Philippines Season 2.

In the second round of minor awards, Sabijon won Best in Production Number and Best in Playsuit. Diaz was also awarded Best in Talent and Best in Evening Gown, while Alegado received the Best Speaker award. The top three finalists were Sabijon, Diaz, and Alegado.

The finalists participated in the question-and-answer segment. Alegado was noted for her response. “If I were to be the next Miss Tañon, I would inspire confidence and proudly represent Tañon College in every endeavor”, Alegado said in her closing statement highlighting her aim to inspire confidence and represent the school.

The event also featured another performance by Musical Night winners and a rendition of “Pantropiko” by BINI sung by Gabutero.

Miss Tañon 2019, Elaine Kim Marie Crismundo was also invited for a farewell walk. Crismundo spoke about her experiences during her reign.

The winners were then announced. Sabijon was 2nd Runner-Up, while Diaz earned 1st Runner-Up, and Alegado was crowned Miss Tañon 2024.

The event ended with applause for the candidates and the newly crowned Miss Tañon 2024, marking the pageant's return.

TC Commemorates Its Founder on his 114th Birthday

Tañon College held a thanksgiving and memorial service in honor of its late founder, Mr. Eugenio A. Antonio Jr., on the occasion of his 114th birthday. The event took place on September 4, 2024, at 10:00 AM in the school gymnasium.

The ceremony was attended by graduating students from both the college and high school departments, faculty and staff, Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC), golden and silver jubilarians, Supreme Student Council (SSC), Junior Supreme Student Government (JSSG), Parents-Teachers Association (PTA), Alumni Officers, the United Church of Christ in the Philippines (UCCP) Choir, and the children and grandchildren of the late founder.

Students Affairs and Services Head, Mrs. Leyte M. Gerodias started the event with a solemn call to worship, setting the tone for the memorial. Mrs. Gibet A. Bascara, one of Mr. Antonio's children delivered a message and greeted the attendees, welcoming everyone to the gathering.

The ceremony concluded with a message of gratitude from Mrs. Cynthia Sanchez, daughter of the late founder. This was followed by a closing prayer led by Rev. Sandra Balderas, a musical performance by the UCCP Choir, and a floral and gift offering from attendees as a tribute to the founder.

This commemorative event served as a reminder of the enduring legacy of Mr. Eugenio A. Antonio Jr. It underscores the importance of honoring his hard work and sacrifices that paved the way for the future. The gathering was a testament to the lasting impact of his vision and dedication.

TC students shine at Literary Night 2024

Tañon College hosted its Literary Night at the City Auditorium on September 2, 2024. The program started with an invocation and the singing of the Philippine National Anthem by the Pasundayag Chorale Group. Mrs. Joan Calbario gave her opening remarks, and the judges were introduced by Mr. John Keneth De Arce.

The winners for the Spoken Poetry Category A were Jan Rhendel Sotes from Grade 10 in first place, Chrissamin Amaro from Grade 7 in second place, and Roland Descartin from Grade 9 in third place. In Category B, the winners were Jamila Solitario in first place, Jiza Lawoglawog in second place, and Vanessa Jimenez in third place. The Character Impersonation winners were Irah Barbon in first place, Zoe Napuli in second place, and Elvie Concepcion in third place. Meanwhile, in the Oratorical Speech category, Jovelyn Paz grabbed first place, Jhoanna Enriquez took second place, and Franz Rodriguez finished in third place. In the Storytelling category, Joviel Teguihanon won first place, Crystal Dugenio came in second, and Claire Parlocha placed third. Lastly, in the Extemporaneous Speech category, the winners were Jayson Cañedo in first place, Kimberly Vergara in second place, and Leuricbliss Larida in third place.

The Literary Night brought much fun and showcased the diversity and skills of Tañon College students. The event ended with closing remarks by Ms. Faith Joy Ploteña.
