A violent altercation onboard Royal Caribbean’s Icon of the Seas has resulted in one crew member's death and another being hospitalized, according to an official statement from the Royal Bahamas Police Force.
Authorities report that a 35-year-old male crew member allegedly stabbed his 28-year-old female colleague multiple times during a personal dispute aboard the vessel. The incident occurred Thursday evening while the cruise ship was sailing off the coast of San Salvador Island in the Bahamas.
Following the attack, the suspect fled the scene and jumped overboard. He was later recovered by the ship’s medical team but was pronounced dead. An autopsy will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death.
The injured female crew member sustained stab wounds to her upper body and is now in stable condition after receiving immediate treatment from the onboard medical team.
A Royal Caribbean spokesperson confirmed the incident, calling it a “personal dispute” between two crew members. “One of the crew members was injured, was attended to by the onboard medical team, and she is now in stable condition. Unfortunately, the other crew member is deceased after he went overboard and was recovered in a search and rescue operation,” the company said.
