The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has rescued four fisherfolk aboard their disabled fishing boat in the waters of Mariveles, Bataan, on Wednesday.

In a situation report on Thursday, the PCG said BRP Boracay (FPB-2401) began search and rescue (SAR) operations for fishing banca (FBCA) John Vincent at 11 p.m. Tuesday after receiving a report of the missing boat.

The government is ramping up efforts to modernize the agriculture sector as it targets to complete 145 Rice Processing Systems (RPS) nationwide before the end of the year, the Department of Agriculture (DA) announced Thursday.

The RPS project is implemented under the Rice Competitiveness Enhancement Fund (RCEF) Mechanization Program through the Philippine Center for Postharvest Development and Mechanization (PhilMech).

The number of reported fatalities from the magnitude 6.9 earthquake that hit Bogo City, Cebu and nearby areas on Sept. 30 has climbed to 76, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said Thursday.

In its latest situation report, the NDRRMC said all fatalities, which are still being validated, are from Region 7 (Central Visayas).

The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Manila on Tuesday, October 14, announced the return of two historic pastoral staffs (baculo) gifted by the clergy of Pampanga when the province was still part of Manila archdiocese.

One of the pastoral staff included one, which was gifted by the Pampanga clergy to Archbishop Jeremiah James Harty in 1905.

MPAV eyes greenhouse farming at New Clark City

The Metro Pacific Agro Ventures (MPAV) has expressed interest in exploring opportunities for high-technology greenhouse farming with the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA).

Angeles City Mayor Carmelo “Jon” Lazatin II, supervises the disinfection of public schools and day care centers, following the "seasonal trend" in Influenza-like Illness (ILI) cases.

The city government on Thursday started the disinfection and inspection of buildings at Gueco Balibago Elementary School.

The City Health Office (CHO) City Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit (CESU), City Sanitation Team and City Engineering Office led the drive, in coordination with the Department of Education Angeles City.

Other public schools are scheduled for disinfection and inspection in the coming days, the mayor said.

Lazatin earlier announced the suspension of classes, arranged by cluster, to give way for the operation.
