Bibili sana ako ng torotot pero nabasa ko ito 👇

The environmental health group BAN Toxics has issued a public warning about the potential dangers of plastic hornpipes, popularly known as “torotot,” which are commonly used during celebrations in the Philippines. Recent market checks in Baclaran (Pasay) and Divisoria found that several torotot samples contained lead levels exceeding safety standards for children’s toys. Tests also detected other harmful substances such as barium, bromine, chlorine, and chromium—raising serious concerns about possible health risks, especially for children.

Consumer advocates are urging parents and buyers to be more cautious when purchasing torotot and allowing children to use them. Thony Dizon, Advocacy and Campaign Officer of BAN Toxics, stressed that prolonged exposure to these chemicals may lead to long-term health effects. The public is advised to read product labels carefully, choose non-toxic alternatives, and prioritize safety so celebrations can remain fun without putting health at risk.
