Isang maalamat na kwento,

si Sierra Madre ay isinilang mula sa pagmamahal ng kalikasan para sa Pilipinas. Siya ang diwata ng bundok, isang makapangyarihang dalagang binuo mula sa lupa, bato, at mga ugat ng kagubatan. Ang kanyang katawan ay ang mismong bundok—matatag, malalim, at puno ng buhay. Ang kanyang buhok ay ang mga gubat na sumasayaw sa hangin, at ang kanyang mga ugat ang siyang nagbibigay-lakas sa mga ilog na bumubuhay sa kapatagan.

Tuwing may bagyong nagbabanta sa Pilipinas, si Sierra Madre ang unang sumasalubong sa hangin at ulan. Gamit ang kanyang malalaking bisig na gawa sa bato at lupa, hinaharang niya ang hampas ng bagyo upang maprotektahan ang kapatagan at ang mga tao. Ngunit sa bawat labanan, unti-unting natutunaw ang kanyang anyo—ang mga puno’y napuputol, ang lupa’y nadudurog, at ang kanyang katawan ay unti-unting nasasaktan.

Subalit, kahit sugatan at humihina, patuloy siyang tumatayo, pinagtatanggol ang kanyang bayan. Siya ang tahimik na bayani ng kalikasan—ang walang sawang tagapagsanggalang ng ating bansa mula sa unos.

"Huwag nating hayaan na si Sierra Madre ay mag-isa sa kanyang laban. Protektahan natin siya, dahil siya ang magpoprotekta sa atin.
