Serbisyo or Perwisyo?

From being a starting staff, treasurer, and all-around team memberโ€”to eventually becoming the Editor-in-Chief of The City Collegian, this journey has been nothing short of life-changing. I started in first year na walang ideya kung saan ako dadalhin ng landas na โ€˜to. I was just a freshman who loved to write and observe behind the scenes. At ngayon, bilang isang graduate student, I look back not with regret, but with pride, humility, and deep gratitude.

My term was far from perfect. In fact, it started sa pinaka-hirap na sitwasyon: walang buong team, kulang sa gamit, kulang sa tiwala. There were days I questioned myself. Pero kahit wala ang lahat ng โ€˜yan, I held on to one thingโ€”my will to keep this publication alive.

To Maโ€™am Grace, at Ate Janica โ€“ salamat. โ€

Pero gaya nga ng kasabihanโ€”from the hardest soils bloom the strongest roots.
Despite everything, โ€œsomething beautiful happened:โ€ a team was formed. A family was built. A community of passionate, driven, and resilient young writers, artists, editors, and leaders. We started from scratchโ€”but we created something real, something meaningful.

Issue after issue, post after post, forum after forumโ€”we slowly found our voice again.
Throughout my leadership, despite all limitations, we achieved more than we expected:

We revived the publication during its weakest point.
Revived the regular release of issuesโ€”even with limited manpower.
We trained new writers, editors, and artists from scratch.
And most importantly, we gave the students their voice back.
And more than anythingโ€”we proved that TCC is not just alive, but thriving.

To my dearest teamโ€”my TCC familyโ€”thank you.
Thank you for standing beside me when everything felt impossible. Hindi ko man masabi sa bawat pagkakataon, pero I saw every effort. I saw the way you grew, how you overcame fears, and how you carried our vision even in the smallest acts. Kahit pagod, kahit may klase, kahit may problema sa bahayโ€”sumusulat pa rin kayo, gumagawa pa rin kayo, lumalaban pa rin kayo.

Iโ€™ve always told you:
And I meant that every single time.

Even when you didnโ€™t see it yet, I already saw your potential. You are all more than capable. And I hope this publication continues to bring that out in you. May The City Collegian always remind you that your voice matters, and that your words have power.

As I now turn the page of my life and enter a new chapter, I do so with peace in my heart. Because I know that I am leaving this publication in the best hands possible.

To the incoming Editor-in-Chief and the new editorial board, this is no ordinary title. This is a commitment. This is your opportunity to shape voices, to protect truth, and to stand firm in a world that needs clarity.

This is not just a farewell.

This is a promise.
A promise that you will never be alone. That I will always be one message away. Ate Anne is, and will always be, proud of you.

Saan man ako dalhin ng buhay, I will carry the name of this publication with me. Because The City Collegian did not just make me a better writerโ€”it made me a better person. A stronger leader. A braver woman.

So with all my heart,
Keep writing.
Keep fighting.
Keep the Collegian spirit alive.
This is not the end of the story.
This is just a new beginningโ€”for all of us.
Maraming salamat, at mabuhay ang The City Collegian.

On July 16, City College of San Jose Del Monte Bachelor of Science in Social Work (BSSW) conducts their second Recognition ceremony for the school year 2024-2025 at the CCSJDM auditorium.

The ceremony opened with a sense of unity and pride as students, and professors filled the venue. From the solemn processional walk to the awarding of outstanding students, each segment reflected the values that BSSW upholdsโ€”integrity, commitment, and compassion for others.

Atty. Antonio D. Gobrin, RSW (Program Chair) gave his congratulatory and encouragement message that reminds students that this recognition is not the finish line, but a milestone in their lifelong mission of social transformation.

This was followed by the much-awaited Presentation of Awardees, where students from first year to fourth year were recognized for their academic excellence, leadership, and dedication to service. Special awards were also presented to students who exemplified outstanding qualities in advocacy, mentorship, and community involvement

The ceremony concluded with heartfelt appreciation for the dedication and perseverance shown by the students throughout the academic year. As the event drew to a close, the atmosphere was filled with pride, inspiration, and renewed determination to continue the journey of service, advocacy, and social change.

LOOK | CCSJDM holds 1st Institutional Recognition Day: โ€œGrowing Stronger Together!โ€

On July 10, 2025, the City College of San Jose del Monte (CCSJDM) proudly held its first Institutional Recognition Day at the City of San Jose del Monte Sports Complex.

The milestone event gathered students, faculty, and administrators in a meaningful celebration of academic success and institutional unity, all under the theme โ€œGrowing Stronger Together!

The ceremony began with an opening message from Ms. Rachel Ann C. Casido, Deputy Vice President for Academic Affairs. She underscored the importance of building a culture of resilience and collaboration within the college, noting how the institution has continued to grow despite challenges. She reminded the students that recognition is not only a reward but also a reflection of their perseverance and the values they carry as future professionals.

In his welcome address, Mr. John Christian Q. Padasas, an incoming 4th-year Bachelor of Public Administration student, acknowledged the many sacrifices students make in pursuit of education. From sleepless nights to balancing responsibilities at home and in school, he emphasized that their struggles are valid and worth recognizing. He encouraged his fellow students to continue striving harder, not only for personal success, but for the communities they hope to serve in the future.

College President Dr. Roger S. Ambida delivered an inspirational message that echoed the institution's vision of molding students who are not only competent in their fields but also rooted in the values of service and integrity. He spoke about CCSJDM's evolving journey and its commitment to equipping students with the skills, discipline, and mindset needed in both local and global contexts.

A special message was delivered by Atty. Juan Miguel Perez, Member of the Board of Trustees, who expressed pride in the achievements of the students and the steady advancement of the college. He reminded the attendees that their success today is part of a larger missionโ€”to serve the public with knowledge, passion, and principle. His message served as both a recognition and a challenge to uphold the responsibility that comes with excellence.

The highlight of the program was the awarding of medals, certificates, and academic distinctions. Members of the CCSJDM Board of Trustees personally led the awarding, congratulating each student while handing over certificates and medals. Their presence and active participation symbolized the institutionโ€™s deep respect for student achievements and the collective support that the CCSJDM leadership extends to its learners. The recognition included student achievers from the School of Business Administration and Accountancy, School of Criminal Justice, School of Education, Arts and Sciences, and the School of Public Administration and Governance.

To close the celebration, Ms. Ma. Floresa L. Mendoza, Vice President for Administration, delivered a heartfelt message that reminded everyone that while achievements should be celebrated, they must also inspire greater responsibility and a continuous desire to grow.
