BREAKING: Planet being pushed beyond limits, all climate indicators “flashing red,” warns UN chief.

The amount of heat trapped by the Earth reached record levels in 2025, with the consequences of such warming feared to last for thousands of years, the UN warned Monday.

“The global climate is in a state of emergency. Planet Earth is being pushed beyond its limits. Every key climate indicator is flashing red,” United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said as the UN’s World Meteorological Organization published its annual climate overview. | via Agence France-Presse

Hikmet Kaya helped transform barren hills in Boyabat into a thriving forest over about two decades. 🌱🌍
Working with forestry teams and local villagers, he led efforts to plant nearly 30 million trees across degraded land. 🌳

The project restored roughly 10,000 hectares (25,000 acres) of land that was once dry and eroded. 🌿
Today the area is covered with dense forest, wildlife has returned, and it stands as a powerful example of long-term environmental restoration.

| In the verdant landscapes of the Philippines, the water buffalo, or carabao, is more than just a farm animal; it is a symbol of hard work and a cornerstone of rural livelihoods. However, behind the pastoral scenes of grazing livestock lies a mounting environmental challenge. As the global community grapples with the accelerating pace of climate change, the agricultural sector—specifically livestock waste management—has come under intense scrutiny.

What was once discarded as waste may soon help build the roads of a more sustainable future.

Brazilian researchers are exploring the use of sugarcane waste ash in asphalt, and early trials suggest the material could create pavements that are stronger, longer-lasting, and far more environmentally friendly.

By transforming agricultural residue into resilient infrastructure, this innovation offers a powerful glimpse of circular sustainability in action. It shows how thoughtful science can reduce pollution, conserve resources, and reshape everyday materials—turning simple byproducts into meaningful steps toward cleaner cities and a greener planet for generations ahead.

🧑‍🌾🚜Two farmers growing the same crop in the same region can have different emission footprints. Why?

It comes down to a variety of factors including fertilizer use, water management and local soil conditions.

How fertilizer is applied, how crop residues are handled after harvest and how fields are irrigated can all play a major role in shaping a farm’s emissions profile.

This variation shows why reducing emissions from croplands isn’t solved with a single, one-size-fits-all approach. Instead, it calls for targeted, context specific strategies.
