To our TGM coaches, thank you for being the soul of our journalism experience this year. You weren't merely instructing us on leads, captions, and layouts—you were teaching us how to have faith in our ideas, to speak up confidently, and to look for meaning in what was once just a story. Amidst the whirlwind of deadlines and midnight revisions, you were always there with patience, with encouragement, and just the right words to motivate us. You didn't merely assist us in creating a yearbook, you assisted us in creating a family.

Looking back, it's not the pages printed that we remember—it's the moments in between. The laughter at ridiculous headlines, the supportive silence when we doubted ourselves, and the pride in your eyes when we finally made it work. You gave so much of yourselves to this team, and we'll take with us far beyond these pages what you've taught us. For that, and for everything, thank you.

𝗡𝗶𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗲 𝗗𝗲 𝗚𝘂𝘇𝗺𝗮𝗻 - 𝗘𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗼𝗿-𝗶𝗻-𝗖𝗵𝗶𝗲𝗳

“Kabataan ang pag-asa ng bayan” -Jose Rizal, National Hero.

This phrase has been alive and will always be alive in the mind and heart of every Filipino. However, effectiveness of the phrase is questionable. Paano magiging pag-asa ang mga Kabataan kung patuloy silang tinatanggalan ng boses ng mamamayan?

Recently, there has been reports about red-tagging of student activists. On April 10, 2025, Eyu, a Bachelor of Arts in Social Sciences (BASS) sophomore at CLSU and a member and former chairperson of Bahaghari-Nueva Ecija, received threats about her security because she was labeled as a member and recruiter of New People’s Army (NPA) in the province. This isn’t the first time she’s threatened because according to reports, she first received threats last November, 2024.

Isang estudyanteng aktibista ang patuloy na tinatanggalan ng boses ng mamamayan o masama pa ay mga taong may tungkulin pa sa pamahalaan. Paanong maninindigan at ipagpapatuloy ang laban kung mapupuno ng takot at pag-aalinlangan?

Sabi nila, they will listen. They told us to not be scared and share what we are thinking. They said they believe that the new generation are smart. Almost everyone is awake and they are not taking a blind eye on what is happening in the country. Pero bakit? Bakit sa tuwing boboses at magbibigay opinion ay tila hinihila pababa ang boses ng minsang natawag na matatalino? Hindi alam sa kung paanong paraan magsasalita at maghahayag dahil maging sa pagsulat o bokal na paglaban ay laging kinakalaban.

If we want change, we must act now. Why would we silence those who are right? This is our chance to speak up. To speak our truth! No one deserves to keep the burden inside them, unspoken.

As a campus journalist, it worries me that one day, I, and my
co-journalists, will be silenced. Where everything will be under control. Nakakatakot umabot sa puntong pati ang konteksto ng sinusulat ko ay hindi ko naman gusto dahil sa takot na mared-tag ako.

To be a campus journalist is a dream— and so does being a student activist. You know what you are fighting for because you know what is right and accepted. You want change to start with you. And I, despite the worries, am very glad to be part of those who speak for those who can’t.

Ako ay isang campus journalist at tutol ako sa red-tagging laban sa mga estudyanteng aktibista at lahat ng mamamahayag.

Alam kong isa ako sa mga pag-asa ng bayan at patuloy akong maniniwala, hanggang dulo.

Now that the election is approaching, the society must know who to vote and trust. It is not just the country that is affected by them, it is the people living in it. Buoin natin ang isang bansang puno ng pag-asa at kalayaan para sa mga mamamahayag lalo na sa kabataan.

Red-tagging won’t be a problem if you accept change in your heart and mind.

Bumoto ng matalino, bumoto nang matalino. Iwasan ang mga pinunong gahaman at takot sa katotohanan.

𝐅𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐄𝐝𝐢𝐭𝐨𝐫'𝐬 𝐋𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫 || 𝐏𝐞𝐫𝐚 𝐨 𝐏𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐬?
𝗘𝗹𝗱𝘄𝗮𝘆𝗻𝗲 𝗙𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘇 𝗖𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗼 - 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝗟𝗮𝘆 𝗢𝘂𝘁 𝗔𝗿𝘁𝗶𝘀𝘁

Minsan nang may nangarap sa atin na maging kung ano ang nakikita natin sa telebisyon— may mga nangarap na maging doktor na tutulong sa may sakit, mala Mang Tani nagbabalita ng panahon sa telebisyon, model sa iba't-ibang mga magasin, o kahit maging isang siyentistang gagawa ng pagbabago sa mundo. Masayang ang mangarap, ngunit tiyak na marami ang sadyang nangangarap na lamang sa kadahilanang ang mga ito ay sadyang trabaho lamang para sa mga "mayayaman". Sa kapitalistang mundo na ito, halos lahat ng ating hinahangad ay mga bituing kaylayong abutin.

Narinig na natin mga nakatatanda natin na maging "praktikal" sa iyong pipiliing programa sa kolehiyo upang umasenso ka sa buhay. Minsa'y mayroong nilalagpasan na lamang ang pag-aaral upang kumayod at mabuhay sa panahong ito. Nakaimprinta na sa ating sistema ang walang katapusang siklo ng puro trabaho, kain, pahinga, at tulog— na nakalulungkot isiping nararanasan ng humigit kumulang 10-20% ng ating mga kababayan.

Halata na karamihan ng mga estudyante ngayon ay kumukuha ng praktikal na programa sa senior high school at kolehiyo upang pumabor sa kanila ang mga oportunidad na mag-aahon sa kanila sa kasalatan. Sa paglingap na ito, sadyang binabawasan nito ang kapasidad ng iilang mga propesyon sabating bansa na di-umano'y "hindi praktikal" dahil walang maibibigay na pera sa hapag-kainan.

Kung ganito ang laging bukambibig natin, paano na ang ating hinaharap? Habangbuhay na lang ba tayong magiging alipin sa pera?

Sa pamamalakad na ito napapansin na hindi ambag ng bawat isa ang mahalaga at sadyang narito tayo upang sumunod. Sa simpleng pananalita, ginawan natin ng bagong kahulugan ang pagiging praktikal: kailangan ka lang kapag may halaga ka, at kung wala ay maiiwan ka. Dahil dito, ang batang nasa isip mo ay naglalaho palayo, hindi mo na muling makikita at mararamdaman. Naturang de-switch na makinarya na lamang tayo ng lipunan.

Nakatutok ang ating paglaki sa "mahalagang" sektor ng lipunan kaya't kahit anong welga't boses ang ating gamitin ay wala pa ring pagbabagong magaganap. Maka-ilang kritiko man ang bumasura sa sistema nating ito, ang kasabihang maging praktikal ay ating bubuhatin hanggang sa henerasyon pa man ng ating mga apo dahil sadyang nagbibingi-bingihan tayo sa sigaw ng mga nagbabalak nito.

Bilang isang eatudyanteng mamamahayag, alam ko at alam nating lahat na kapag may tiyaga ka, may nilaga ka. Problema lang natin kung paano natin ito ilalaga kung ang tiyaga natin ay balewala.

Minsan na rin tayong nangarap ng alipato para sa hinaharap ng ating mundo. Masayang mangarap at lalong kaysarap kung sakaling ito'y aabutin mo nang may muog. Nawa'y pumasok sa iyong isip na walang nakatadhanang makulong sa sistemang hindi natin maayos. Sundin mo kung ano ang nakatuon at gusto mo para sa iyo at maniwala kang kakayanin mo kahit marami ang hindi pabor sayo dahil hindi lamang pera ang prutas ng iyong tagumpay sa buhay.

𝐅𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐄𝐝𝐢𝐭𝐨𝐫'𝐬 𝐋𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫 || 𝐈 𝐚𝐦 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐋𝐨𝐮𝐝𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐝𝐞𝐬𝐭; 𝐊𝐧𝐨𝐰 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐩𝐮𝐫𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐞
𝗪𝗲𝗻𝗮 𝗖𝗼𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗲𝗹 - 𝗟𝗮𝘆 𝗢𝘂𝘁 𝗔𝗿𝘁𝗶𝘀𝘁

This is my last byline as a student journalist. Perhaps, my loudest.

I still remember the first time I joined a press conference. I was quiet, unsure, and a little lost. Just a girl with a pen and a heart full of stories. I didn’t know how to stand out or if my words were good enough to be there. I lost that day, but it didn’t feel like failure. Afterall, it’s not all about winning, it’s all about the lessons you’ve learned throughout the journey. In that moment, I understood that the stories I tell can breathe life into what is unseen, and make people feel.

That day, I didn’t bring home a medal, but I brought home a purpose.

As I continued my journey, I have crossed paths with truths that many chose to ignore. I encountered the countless issues we face as a country, from the smallest struggles to the most heart wrenching crises. Through feature writing, I learned that no issue is too small to matter. Every story, no matter how quiet, has the power to speak volumes. Whether it was a community forgotten by government aid or a student battling to stay in school, these are stories that needed to be told.

As a student journalist, I’ve watched this country bleed in headlines. I’ve seen communities crushed by corruption, youth voices drowned out by noise, and progress paused because the wrong people sat in the right seats. I’ve seen how truth becomes blurry when power is in the wrong hands. I’ve written about these things. I’ve lived them too.

With the elections drawing near I carry both hope and fear. Hope, that we finally choose leaders who will lead with heart. Fear, that history may repeat itself, again and again. if we let ourselves be fooled by hollow promises and rehearsed charisma.

And so, I must say one thing: Bumoto nang MATALINO, Bumoto ng MATALINO

So, I urge you, my fellow Filipino. Don’t let this moment pass. Don’t let your vote be a forgotten line. Choose wisely, choose with your heart. Because the future isn’t built on broken promises, but on the leader we choose to trust.

Let this election be the plot twist we’ve all been waiting for.

𝐈𝐭'𝐬 𝐚 𝐰𝐫𝐚𝐩, 𝐑𝐮𝐢𝐳𝐢𝐚𝐧𝐬!

The school year 2024-2025 has finally come to an end. We've learned a lot of things and experienced positive and negative memories. Nevertheless, we survived the year.

Here in The Great Martyr, we build not just a club but a family and lots of friendships. In here, we met new people that soon turned into our companions.

As the year end, allow us to tell you stories of hope and new learnings in different perspectives.

Here's our last for school year 2024-2025. In participation and an extension of TGM's Final Editors' Note.

May our family grow bigger and stronger next school year!

Your graduation fills us with mixed emotions—joy at your well-deserved success, and sadness at saying goodbye to such amazing journalists.

The time we shared created amazing and unforgettable memories that we will carry forward, sharing them with future journalists. 𝐀 𝐒𝐚𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐏𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐚𝐠𝐞: “𝐀 𝐋𝐨𝐭 𝐂𝐚𝐧 𝐇𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐞𝐧 𝐢𝐧 𝐄𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐃𝐚𝐲𝐬”

A king can be crowned then crucified. The crowd could cheer then condemn. A friend can be trusted then betray in silence. Above all, a tomb that is sealed and guarded can crack open, full of hope and echoes of victory. In one week, Jesus Christ went from hearing the crowd cheer and celebrate Him to being crucified and buried before rising again. 𝘈 𝘭𝘰𝘵 𝘤𝘢𝘯 𝘩𝘢𝘱𝘱𝘦𝘯 𝘪𝘯 𝘦𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵 𝘥𝘢𝘺𝘴 — especially when those days are in the hand of the Savior.

𝘿𝙖𝙮 1: 𝙋𝙖𝙡𝙢 𝙎𝙪𝙣𝙙𝙖𝙮 – 𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝘽𝙚𝙜𝙞𝙣𝙣𝙞𝙣𝙜 (𝙅𝙤𝙝𝙣 12:13)
Jesus entered Jerusalem riding a donkey. People with palm branches celebrates Him coming with cheers and joy while shouting ““Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord, even the King of Israel! It was a day for him, a day of celebration. However, it was also the beginning of His painful journey full of betrayal and pure suffering.

𝘿𝙖𝙮 2-3: 𝙃𝙤𝙡𝙮 𝙈𝙤𝙣𝙙𝙖𝙮 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙏𝙪𝙚𝙨𝙙𝙖𝙮 – 𝙇𝙚𝙨𝙨𝙤𝙣𝙨 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙏𝙚𝙣𝙨𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙨 (𝙈𝙖𝙩𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙬 21:12-22)
Jesus challenged corruption and hypocrisy while He was teaching in the temple. During this time, the tension between Him and religious leaders grew. He predicted his death.

𝘿𝙖𝙮 4: 𝙃𝙤𝙡𝙮 𝙒𝙚𝙙𝙣𝙚𝙨𝙙𝙖𝙮 – 𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙎𝙞𝙡𝙚𝙣𝙩 𝙐𝙣𝙚𝙭𝙥𝙚𝙘𝙩𝙚𝙙 𝘽𝙚𝙩𝙧𝙖𝙮𝙖𝙡 𝙤𝙛 𝙅𝙪𝙙𝙖𝙨 (𝙈𝙖𝙩𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙬 26:14-16)
Judas heard the Lord’s teachings, saw the miracles, shared the meals, and walked with Him. He was trusted and chosen. Yet, for thirty silver coins, he abandoned Jesus. No, he did not shout nor use a sword. He silently turned his back on Him. Betraying not just a friend, but love itself.

𝘿𝙖𝙮 5: 𝙈𝙖𝙪𝙣𝙙𝙮 𝙏𝙝𝙪𝙧𝙨𝙙𝙖𝙮 – 𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙇𝙖𝙨𝙩 𝙎𝙪𝙥𝙥𝙚𝙧 (𝙈𝙖𝙩𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙬 26:17-30)
Jesus gathered all his disciples for a final dinner. It was not just about the gathering, it was full of teachings, love, and service. While eating, Jesus took a bread, gave thanks, broke it, and distribute to His disciples. He said “Take and eat; This is my body.” He then took a cup, gave thanks, and gave it to them once again while saying “Drink from it, all of you. This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins. I tell you, I will not drink from this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father’s kingdom.”

𝘿𝙖𝙮 6: 𝙂𝙤𝙤𝙙 𝙁𝙧𝙞𝙙𝙖𝙮 – 𝙃𝙞𝙨 𝘾𝙧𝙪𝙘𝙞𝙛𝙞𝙭𝙞𝙤𝙣 (𝙍𝙤𝙢𝙖𝙣𝙨 5:6-10)
We were weak and full of sins, yet He stood up and received all painful beatings while they spat on Him and mock Him. He sacrificed and let us live. God shows his love while enduring the pain of deadly beatings while we were still sinners. The Lord was then crucified while wearing a crown of thorns.

𝘿𝙖𝙮 7: 𝘽𝙡𝙖𝙘𝙠 𝙎𝙖𝙩𝙪𝙧𝙙𝙖𝙮 – 𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝘽𝙪𝙧𝙞𝙖𝙡 𝙤𝙛 𝙅𝙚𝙨𝙪𝙨 (𝙈𝙖𝙩𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙬 27:57-66)
Everyone was silent. He was in the tomb. But then, a strong force was felt because His words when He was alive was remembered: “I will rise again in three days” Some are hoping and patiently waiting for it to happen. Yet, the Pilate was not happy about the Lord rising again. He made an order to secure the tomb where no one can enter and no one can leave.

𝘿𝙖𝙮 8: 𝙀𝙖𝙨𝙩𝙚𝙧 𝙎𝙪𝙣𝙙𝙖𝙮 – “𝙃𝙚 𝙞𝙨 𝙍𝙞𝙨𝙚𝙣!” (𝙈𝙖𝙩𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙬 28:5-7)
Hope was restored. After three days, He rose from his tomb. Sin and death were defeated. It was victory over death.

With the short span of eight days, the greatest story of all was told. It was not just about the sufferings and tragedy, it is about hope, love, and fate. The cheers of palm branches faded but the grace endured. Betrayal broke trust, yet forgiveness was offered. The cross felt like the end but it was actually the true beginning. Jesus died for our sins but along the way, He lived and rose with us.

Today, April 20, 2025, the Holy Week concludes because He is risen. However, we must never forget to recognize His sacrifices and experiences for us, especially in our daily lives.

And may this be a reminder that when life feels uncertain and hard to live, remember that a lot happened to Him in eight days. Take a week break, breathe, and reflect on your life. You got this!

Talented Feature Writers, Carline Faith Alejo and Glizelle Marrion Longalong, of The Great Martyr will continue their JOURNey today, March 21 until March 23, 2025, in Bataan National High School, Balanga, Bataan as they compete in 2025 Regional Schools Press Conference facing other young journalists around Region III.

Alejo will showcase her skills in Filipino category after placing 1st last Division Schools Press Conference and Longalong for English category after placing 4th in the same competition. Both writers are coached by Ms. Marriane Caballero.

Ruizians, joining RSPC is a dream to many journalists. Now that we have candidates for the said competition, it is time for us to acknowledge their determination, passion, commitment, and perseverance. Let us all pray for their safe travels and wish nothing but success for both of them.

Let this be a step closer to the Nationals, Great Martyrs! Make a trip from Bataan to Vigan. Bring home the bacon!

𝐓𝐈𝐆𝐍𝐀𝐍 || 𝐒𝐚𝐤𝐢𝐧 𝐏𝐚 𝐑𝐢𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐠 𝐊𝐨𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐚 𝐊𝐨!

Vivar at Rodriguez nagsagupaan sa paghampas sa larong badminton.

Nasungkit ulit ng pambato ng 12 HUMSS na si Elaiza Vivar ang ginto sa championship round laban kay Michelle Rodriguez ng 12 ABM sa puntos na 15-11, 15-10, sa San Leonardo Gym nitong Huwebes.

Maagang umarangkada si Vivar mag marka ng apat na puntos mula sa matitinding smash dahilan upang makuha ang unang set ng laban, 15-11.

Sa pagpatuloy ng laro, matindi ang naging hampasan ng parehong atleta, ngunit si Vivar pa rin ang nangibabaw.

Sa ikalawang set, waging kampeon ang atletang si Vivar laban kay Rodriguez matapos bigyan ng limang puntos na kalamangan galing sa dalawang dropshot at tatlong smash para makuha ang kampeyonato, 15-10.

“Masaya ako dahil nagawa ko ulit na mag champion, mas ginanahan ako nung nanalo ako sa unang set” saad ni Vivar sa isang panayam.

Matindi man ang kanilang paghaharap, ngunit sulit naman ang kanilang naipanalo na parehong tanggap ng mga atleta.

11 ABM at 11 HUMSS, ang kanyang mga tinalo at nalagpasan bago makuha ang pwesto sa kampeonado at nanaig laban sa 11 STEM B.

Maagang naginit si Razon sa unang set ng laban dahil sa tindi ng depensa ng kalaban, ngunit nanatili pa rin ang kaniyang momentum sa paglaban.

Sa kaniyang bilis at lakas sa paghampas ng shuttle, naipakita niya rin na siya'y kompyansang manalo at makuha ang gintong medalya.

Naging maigting ang tapatan ng lakas ng dalawa, ngunit naipanalo pa rin niya ang Single A laban sa mga pambato ng 11 STEM B.

Nanaig ang kanyang kalakasan sa paglalaro, pinangunahan man siya ng kaba ngunit hindi naman ito naging hadlang upang makamit niya ang kampeonado
