Every Filipino are now on edge after the news of disasters after disasters flooded the Filipino news and social media, with "The Big One" or a disastrous earthquake that could happen once the West Valley Fault moves having the spotlight more than ever. Complacency, corruption, and negligence are some of the key reasons why despite of our experience, many still succumb or fall casualty to such calamities.
To prevent or minimise damages to ourselves, and to also ensure survival, it is recommended that each family have a dedicated "GO Bag" filled with essentials that would ensure readiness in case of calamities.
What to bring?
In a large, waterproof bag, it should contain;
- Essential Government Documents (IDs, Birth Certificate, and other important documents)
- Foods (ready to eat canned, biscuits/high-energy foods, or non-perishables.)
- Water (At Least 3 liters per person)
- First-aid Kits
- Medicine (over-the-counter, maintenance, and prescription medicine)
- Hygiene Kit
- Alcohol and Face Masks
- Flashlight
- Batteries
- Radio
- Powerbank
- Clothes
- Emergency Blankets
These are the most essential items to ensure a 72-hour survival. It is advisable to replace foods and medicines every 6 months or upon expiration.
Paulinians, let us ensure readiness and safety in these times of uneasiness.
