REBUILD THE TEMPLE. REBUILD THE ALTAR.
๐ Key Verse:
โBut seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.โ
โ Matthew 6:33
Tonight, my husband and I spent time together in our evening devotion. We found ourselves reading the book of Haggai, and as my husband read the Scriptures aloud, tears began to fall from my eyes. The Word of the Lord struck my heart deeply and personally.
Through the prophet Haggai, God confronted His people. They had become busy building, improving, and beautifying their own homes while the house of God remained in ruins. They were working hard and pursuing many things, yet they were never truly satisfied.
God asked them:
โIs it a time for you yourselves to be living in your paneled houses, while this house remains a ruin?โ
โ Haggai 1:4
Then came the piercing instruction:
โGive careful thought to your ways.โ
โ Haggai 1:5
What a powerful reminder for us today.
We may be busy building our careers, securing our future, caring for our families, fulfilling responsibilities, and even serving in ministryโbut have we neglected the condition of our spiritual lives?
The Bible teaches that we are Godโs temple. Our personal altar represents our daily walk with Himโour prayer life, our reading and meditation on His Word, our worship, our obedience, and the quiet moments when we seek His presence.
Perhaps, from the outside, everything appears to be going well. We may still attend church, lead ministries, complete assignments, and fulfill our responsibilities. But deep within, has the altar been neglected? Are we still serving from the overflow of our relationship with God, or are we simply doing ministry because it has become an obligation?
Are we still moved by Godโs presence, or are we only going through the motions?
Tonight, I felt the Lord gently but clearly reminding me:
โRebuild the temple. Rebuild the altar. Put Me first again.โ
Sometimes, the issue is not that we have completely turned away from God. We may have simply allowed other priorities to take His rightful place. We became too busy building everything around us that we forgot to nurture what God was building within us.
This is not a message of condemnationโit is a loving invitation to return.
Hindi pa huli ang lahat.
We can still return to our first love.
We can still rebuild our prayer life.
We can still open our Bibles with hunger and expectation.
We can still worship with sincerity.
We can still surrender the areas of our lives that have taken Godโs place.
We can still rebuild the altar.
Today, let us pause and honestly examine ourselves:
Is God still our highest priority?
Are our hearts still aligned with His will?
Are we seeking His presenceโor only His blessings?
Are we serving because we love Him, or merely because we have an assignment to complete?
What part of our spiritual lives needs to be rebuilt?
God desires more than our accomplishments, activities, and ministry performance. He desires our hearts. He wants a living relationship with usโone marked by love, surrender, obedience, and genuine devotion.
Let us seek first His Kingdom and His righteousness. Let us give God His rightful place againโnot only in our schedules, but also in our hearts, homes, decisions, relationships, and ministries.
May we have the courage to โgive careful thought to our waysโ and respond as the people did in Haggaiโs time: by obeying the voice of the Lord and beginning the work of rebuilding.
Lord, forgive us for the times we became so busy building our own lives that we neglected our relationship with You. Search our hearts and reveal anything that has taken Your place. Restore our hunger for Your Word, revive our prayer lives, and teach us to seek You first. Help us rebuild the temple and restore the altar of worship in our hearts. May everything we do flow from a genuine and intimate relationship with You. In Jesusโ name, Amen.
Rebuild the temple. Restore the altar. Return to your first love. Put God first again. ๐ค
