I can't always be there for other people. That's something I need them to understand. Not because I don't want to, but because I'm drowning, too.

While I know I can keep a straight face most of the time, I'm just as helpless, giving it my all to keep my head above the water. While I know I look like I have it all figured out, there are nights when I just lay in bed, staring at the ceiling for hours, asking the same question over and over: "what now?"

I can't always be there for other people because there are times when I can't even be there for myself. That's why as selfish as it may seem, I treasure it in my heart when they show up for me to celebrate my small wins. When they want to share the laughter, or when they simply want to give love because they felt I no longer have anything left to give. It's something I wish to reciprocate when the rain finally stops for me, but until then, I'll keep on fighting for the better days.
