📢 Earthquake Preparedness Reminder:
The West Valley Fault
It’s important for everyone to stay informed — not to cause panic, but to be ready and aware.
According to PHIVOLCS and the MMDA, the West Valley Fault (also known as the Marikina Fault System) runs through parts of Bulacan, Quezon City, Marikina, Pasig, Makati, Taguig, Muntinlupa, Rizal, Cavite, and Laguna.
Experts say it can generate a magnitude 7.2 earthquake — which could cause heavy damage if it happens. That’s why Metro Manila has a preparedness plan called “Oplan Metro Yakal”, dividing the city into four quadrants for rescue and evacuation operations:
🧭 North: Caloocan, Valenzuela, Quezon City, San Juan, Mandaluyong
🌅 East: Pasig, Marikina
🏙️ West: Manila, Malabon, Navotas
🌇 South: Las Piñas, Makati, Muntinlupa, Parañaque, Pateros, Taguig, Pasay
🆘 Designated evacuation/staging areas include:
UP Diliman and Veterans Memorial Golf Course (North)
Marikina Boys Town, Red Cross Marikina, Ultra Pasig (East)
Intramuros Golf Course (West)
Villamor Air Base Golf Course (South)
Athletic fields, schools, churches, and memorial parks may also be used as evacuation centers.
The Pasig River will serve as an alternate rescue route if bridges are damaged.
