Surigao del Norte Gitay-og sa Magnitude 6.2 nga Linog karong Buntag, October 17

A magnitude 6.2 earthquake struck 13 km southeast of General Luna, Surigao del Norte at 7:03 AM today, October 17, according to PHIVOLCS. The quake had a shallow depth of 10 km, with Intensity IV felt in parts of Agusan del Norte, Southern Leyte, and Surigao City.

No tsunami warning has been issued. Authorities are monitoring for aftershocks.

Malacañang has declared Friday, October 17, 2025, a special non-working holiday in the Province of Negros Oriental in celebration of the Buglasan Festival.

The announcement was made through Proclamation No. 1031, signed by Executive Secretary Lucas P. Bersamin by authority of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.

The Buglasan Festival is Negros Oriental’s grand celebration of culture and local pride. With the holiday, people are expected to join the fun in Dumaguete City for parades and other events.

Classes and work in government offices and most private establishments across the province will be suspended to give Negrenses the chance to fully enjoy the festival.
