On this day, we recognize one of the greatest economic engines of the world, through innovation, preservation of cultural heritage, environmental protection, and uplifting local and indigenous communities.

As we commemorate World Tourism Day 2025, we bring to life tales that showcase the splendor and potential of every part of the globe.

𝗟𝗢𝗢𝗞 | The Laguna University Board of Regents convened for its 3rd Quarter Meeting held at the Conference Room, Administration Building, September 25, discussing key matters crucial to the university’s development.

University President Dr. Charlemagne G. Laviña, Board Vice Chairperson, led the presentation, joined by Board Chairperson Governor Marisol Aragones, represented by Vice Mayor Antonino Aurelio, who facilitated the meeting on her behalf.

𝗟𝗜𝗧𝗘𝗥𝗔𝗥𝗬 | 𝙉𝙖𝙨𝙖 𝙇𝙪𝙥𝙖 𝙖𝙣𝙜 𝘼𝙠𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙢𝙜𝙖 𝙋𝙖𝙣𝙜𝙖𝙧𝙖𝙥

Mula pagkabata madalas na nating naririnig ang tanong na “𝘼𝙣𝙤 𝙖𝙣𝙜 𝙥𝙖𝙣𝙜𝙖𝙧𝙖𝙥 𝙢𝙤 ‘𝙥𝙖𝙜𝙡𝙖𝙠𝙞 𝙢𝙤?” Sa murang isipan, marami tayong nagiging kasagutan dahil hindi pa tayo sigurado sa kung ano nga ba ang gusto natin. Kung ako ang tatanungin, ginusto ko ang maging nars, doktor, titser, o kung ano man ang mga propesyon na naririnig ko lamang.

Ginusto ko lahat dahil sabi nila, libre lang naman daw mangarap—𝗺𝗮𝘆 𝗽𝗮𝗸𝗽𝗮𝗸 𝗸𝗮𝗻𝗴 𝗺𝗮𝗴𝗱𝗮𝗱𝗮𝗹𝗮 𝘀𝗮 𝗶𝘆𝗼. Lumipad ka lang at maaabot mo rin ang mga ito. Ibuka mo lang ang iyong mga pakpak at lahat ng mga lugar na nais mong puntahan ay mararating mo; maaabot mo ang mga bituin sa langit. Kaya ito ang aking ginawa—pinilit kong palakihin ang buka ng aking pakpak. Sa murang edad, ang maliit na pakpak na meron ako ay pinilit kong iwinagayway patungo sa mga lugar na nais kong puntahan at sa mga lugar na kailangan.

Ngunit walang nagturo kung paano ka dadalhin ng mga ito kung dumating ang puntong hindi ka na nito kayang dalhin paitaas.

Paano ka makalilipad nang mataas kung hindi mo alam ang hangganan ng iyong paglipad at mapagod na ang iyong mga pakpak? Paano ka dadalhin ng mga pakpak mo kung sugatan ang mga ito? Kung nasunog ito sa matinding liwanag ng mga pangarap na pilit mong inaabot? Paano mo dadalhin ang sakit ng pagkakalagapak mo mula sa itaas hanggang sa lupa na pilit mong nilayuan?

Walang nagturo kung paano ka nito dadalhin sa pagbagsak mo. 𝘞𝘢𝘭𝘢𝘯𝘨 𝘯𝘢𝘬𝘢𝘱𝘢𝘨𝘴𝘢𝘣𝘪 𝘯𝘢 𝘪𝘬𝘢𝘸 𝘯𝘢 𝘱𝘢𝘭𝘢 𝘢𝘯𝘨 𝘮𝘢𝘨𝘥𝘢𝘥𝘢𝘭𝘢 𝘯𝘨 𝘣𝘪𝘨𝘢𝘵 𝘯𝘪𝘵𝘰.

Kaya naman kung walang hangganan ang taas ng aking paglipad, baka ang lalim ng aking pagbagsak ang magdadala sa akin sa aking mga pangarap. Huhubarin ko na ang aking mga pakpak at ilalagay ang mga ito sa tabi ng mga pangarap na sisimulan kong hukayin.

Dahil kung may natutunan ako sa walang humpay na paglipad, hindi dapat ako nangangarap nang mataas. 𝙈𝙖𝙣𝙜𝙖𝙣𝙜𝙖𝙧𝙖𝙥 𝙖𝙠𝙤 𝙣𝙖𝙣𝙜 𝙢𝙖𝙡𝙖𝙡𝙞𝙢.

Hindi pakpak ang aking palalaguin kundi ang mga ugat na magpapatibay ng aking mga pangarap.

Mga ugat ang mananatili sa lupa hindi dahil pumapalpak ka, kundi dahil nandito ang pundasyon ng mataas mong pangarap. Baka kasi hindi mo ito kailangan abutin at habulin dahil ikaw ang dapat gumawa nito—𝘪𝘬𝘢𝘸 𝘢𝘯𝘨 𝘮𝘢𝘨𝘱𝘢𝘱𝘢𝘭𝘢𝘨𝘰.

At kung mas malalim, mas makikita mo ang mga pangarap mo. Hindi ka parating nakatingin sa itaas, hindi mo ito hinahanap sa mga lugar o tao, at lalong hindi ka masisilaw sa liwanag na dala nito. Bibigyan ka lamang nito ng espasyo para sa mas matibay na pundasyon upang palaguin ang mga pangarap mo.

Wala namang masama sa pag-abot ng mga bituin sa langit. Ngunit sa lupa, mas marami ang mga buhangin na maaari mong magamit.

It’s 2025, and yet somehow we’re still stuck on this: a young woman raises her fist at a rally, instead of listening to what she’s fighting for, people zero in on her armpit. A photo circulates online and the debate shifts not about corruption, not about accountability, but about body hair and the tone of her skin.

Let’s set the record straight. 𝘽𝙤𝙙𝙮 𝙝𝙖𝙞𝙧 𝙞𝙨 𝙣𝙤𝙧𝙢𝙖𝙡. 𝙎𝙠𝙞𝙣 𝙙𝙞𝙨𝙘𝙤𝙡𝙤𝙧𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙞𝙨 𝙣𝙤𝙧𝙢𝙖𝙡. These are not flaws to be mocked, nor do they determine the worth of a person’s message. What should disturb us more than an unshaven underarm is the unchecked corruption that has long drained our public coffers. What’s truly ugly is not on her skin but in the system she protests against.

This reflex to ridicule bodies instead of reckoning with power is not new. From “Maria Clara” expectations that women must always be modest and flawless to online culture where women’s appearances are policed more harshly than men’s actions, body shaming has become a convenient way to silence dissent. After all, it’s easier to dismiss a woman by mocking her armpit than to confront the truth of what she’s saying.

𝘗𝘦𝘳𝘰 𝘩𝘢𝘣𝘢𝘯𝘨 𝘱𝘪𝘯𝘢𝘨𝘵𝘢𝘵𝘢𝘸𝘢𝘯𝘢𝘯 𝘢𝘯𝘨 𝘬𝘪𝘭𝘪-𝘬𝘪𝘭𝘪, 𝘱𝘢𝘵𝘶𝘭𝘰𝘺 𝘯𝘢 𝘯𝘪𝘭𝘢𝘭𝘢𝘮𝘰𝘯 𝘯𝘨 𝘬𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘸𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘢𝘯 𝘢𝘯𝘨 𝘬𝘢𝘣𝘢𝘯 𝘯𝘨 𝘣𝘢𝘺𝘢𝘯. 𝘏𝘢𝘣𝘢𝘯𝘨 𝘨𝘪𝘯𝘢𝘨𝘢𝘸𝘢𝘯𝘨 𝘣𝘪𝘳𝘰 𝘢𝘯𝘨 𝘣𝘶𝘩𝘰𝘬 𝘴𝘢 𝘬𝘢𝘵𝘢𝘸𝘢𝘯, 𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘢𝘯𝘢𝘬𝘢𝘸𝘢𝘯 𝘵𝘢𝘺𝘰 𝘯𝘨 𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘢𝘣𝘶𝘬𝘢𝘴𝘢𝘯. 𝘔𝘢𝘴 𝘮𝘢𝘣𝘪𝘭𝘪𝘴 𝘵𝘢𝘺𝘰𝘯𝘨 𝘮𝘢𝘯𝘥𝘶𝘳𝘰 𝘯𝘨 𝘣𝘢𝘭𝘢𝘵 𝘬𝘢𝘺𝘴𝘢 𝘮𝘢𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘪𝘭 𝘯𝘨 𝘮𝘢𝘨𝘯𝘢𝘯𝘢𝘬𝘢𝘸.

We should ask ourselves: why do we pay more attention to the look of a woman’s underarm than to the theft of public funds? Why is body hair treated as scandalous while political scandals barely raise concern?

𝘔𝘨𝘢 𝘳𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘢, 𝘥𝘢𝘭𝘢 𝘢𝘯𝘨 𝘴𝘢𝘳𝘪𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘥𝘢𝘯𝘨𝘢𝘭 𝘢𝘵 𝘣𝘶𝘩𝘢𝘺, 𝘩𝘶𝘮𝘢𝘩𝘢𝘳𝘢𝘱 𝘱𝘢𝘳𝘢 𝘴𝘢 𝘬𝘢𝘵𝘰𝘵𝘰𝘩𝘢𝘯𝘢𝘯. 𝘕𝘨𝘶𝘯𝘪𝘵 𝘨𝘪𝘯𝘢𝘨𝘢𝘸𝘢𝘯𝘨 𝘬𝘢𝘵𝘢𝘵𝘢𝘸𝘢𝘯𝘢𝘯 𝘢𝘯𝘨 𝘬𝘢𝘯𝘪𝘭𝘢𝘯𝘨 𝘬𝘢𝘵𝘢𝘸𝘢𝘯, 𝘱𝘢𝘳𝘢 𝘵𝘢𝘬𝘱𝘢𝘯 𝘢𝘯𝘨 𝘣𝘶𝘭𝘰𝘬 𝘯𝘢 𝘱𝘢𝘮𝘢𝘩𝘢𝘭𝘢𝘢𝘯. 𝘚𝘢 𝘭𝘪𝘱𝘶𝘯𝘢𝘯𝘨 𝘪𝘵𝘰, 𝘮𝘢𝘴 𝘮𝘢𝘩𝘢𝘭𝘢𝘨𝘢 𝘱𝘢 𝘳𝘢𝘸 𝘢𝘯𝘨 𝘬𝘶𝘵𝘪𝘴 𝘬𝘢𝘺𝘴𝘢 𝘬𝘰𝘯𝘴𝘦𝘯𝘴𝘺𝘢.

The armpit was never the story. The story is about courage. The story is about corruption. The story is about people daring to speak truth to power, even when that truth is inconvenient.

𝘚𝘢 𝘥𝘶𝘭𝘰, 𝘵𝘢𝘯𝘰𝘯𝘨 𝘯𝘨 𝘣𝘢𝘺𝘢𝘯: 𝘣𝘢𝘬𝘪𝘵 𝘮𝘢𝘴 𝘬𝘢𝘺𝘢 𝘯𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘱𝘢𝘨𝘵𝘢𝘸𝘢𝘯𝘢𝘯 𝘢𝘯𝘨 𝘬𝘪𝘭𝘪-𝘬𝘪𝘭𝘪, 𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘰 𝘵𝘢𝘬𝘰𝘵 𝘵𝘢𝘺𝘰𝘯𝘨 𝘱𝘢𝘨-𝘶𝘴𝘢𝘱𝘢𝘯 𝘢𝘯𝘨 𝘬𝘢𝘮𝘢𝘺 𝘯𝘢 𝘯𝘢𝘬𝘢𝘴𝘢𝘩𝘰𝘥 𝘴𝘢 𝘣𝘶𝘸𝘪𝘴 𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘢𝘶𝘮𝘣𝘢𝘺𝘢𝘯?

Body hair is natural. Skin tone is natural. And what must never be normalized is blind loyalty to corrupt leaders. If we are quick to shame bodies, we should be quicker to shame corruption.

Binaha ang Luneta nitong 𝗦𝗲𝘁𝘆𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗿𝗲 𝟮𝟭 ng mga tinig laban sa lumalalang korapsyon sa ating inang bayan. Nag-uumapaw ang init ng damdamin habang nagsama-sama ang iba’t ibang mukha ng lipunan: mga estudyante, manggagawa, artista, propesyonal, at karaniwang mamamayan. Lahat ay nagdala ng plakard, lahat ay may sigaw ng paglaban.

Sa gitna ng mainit na pakikibaka, may isang tinig na umalingawngaw. Tila mababaw, ngunit direktang tumama sa bituka ng bayan:

“𝙄𝙗𝙖𝙗𝙖 𝙖𝙣𝙜 𝙥𝙧𝙚𝙨𝙮𝙤 𝙣𝙜 𝙛𝙞𝙨𝙝𝙗𝙖𝙡𝙡! 𝙄𝙗𝙖𝙗𝙖 𝙖𝙣𝙜 𝙥𝙧𝙚𝙨𝙮𝙤 𝙣𝙜 𝙠𝙞𝙠𝙞𝙖𝙢, 𝙛𝙞𝙨𝙝𝙗𝙖𝙡𝙡! 𝙏𝙤𝙠𝙣𝙚𝙣𝙚𝙣𝙜! 𝙆𝙬𝙚𝙠-𝙠𝙬𝙚𝙠, [𝙖𝙩] 𝙘𝙖𝙡𝙖𝙢𝙖𝙧𝙚𝙨!”

Marami ang nagbigay-pansin dito sa 𝘀𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗺𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗮, at may ilang natawa. Para sa iba, ito’y tila biro lamang, isang nakakatawang hiling sa gitna ng laban sa korapsyon. Nagkaroon din ng haka-haka, iniisip na baka hindi maayos ang pag-iisip ng nagsasalita. Ngunit kung bukas lamang ang ating pandinig at isip, mauunawaan natin na ang sigaw na iyon ay hindi lang tungkol sa kapos na kinikita nila kundi salamin ng bansang matagal nang piniprito sa sariling kahirapan.

Ang mga pagkaing binanggit ay hindi lamang basta pagkain sa tabing-kalsada. Ito rin ay ang pantawid-gutom ng estudyanteng kulang sa baon, ng manggagawang laging kapos ang sahod, ng pamilyang nagsasalo-salo sa tatlong pirasong kwek-kwek na sinasawsaw sa maanghang na s**a at matamis na sawsawan, lakas ng jeepney driver na kulang ang pasada, at ng tindero’t tinderang kumakapit sa bawat baryang kinikita.

Kung pagmamasdan natin, ang dating tigpi-pisong fishball para sa dalawang piraso ngayo’y sampung piso na para sa walo. Isang simpleng halimbawa, ngunit nagsisilbing malinaw na mensahe para sa bawat Pilipino: pati ang pinakamurang sandigan ng masa ay unti-unting kinukuha sa kanila.

Hindi nakakapagtaka na ang 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗲𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝘃𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗼𝗿 na may malakas na tinig ay hindi lamang makikita na nagtitinda sa tabing-kalsada, nakikita rin sila na lumalaban para sa bawat Pilipino na nagnanais makamit ang simpleng buhay na may dangal. Ang kaniyang patuloy na pakikibaka ay nagsilbing repleksyon kung anong uri ng pamahalaan mayroon tayo ngayon – isang gobyerno na mala-buwayang nakaupo lamang sa upuan habang pinagmamasdan ang ating bansa na lumubog kasama ang mamamayang Pilipino.

Sa bawat tusok ng fishball, kikiam, o kwek-kwek, sa bawat init sa tokneneng at calamares – damang-dama ang mainit na hinaing ng sambayanang pinagkakaitan ng karapatang mabuhay nang may dangal.

Kaya’t sa simpleng tinig ng isang street food vendor, na nananawagang ibaba ang presyo ng pagkain sa kanto o streetfoods, nahahayag ang mas malalim na mensahe: 𝙠𝙪𝙣𝙜 𝙖𝙣𝙜 𝙥𝙖𝙣𝙩𝙖𝙬𝙞𝙙-𝙜𝙪𝙩𝙤𝙢 𝙣𝙖 𝙣𝙜𝙖 𝙡𝙖𝙣𝙜 𝙖𝙮 𝙣𝙖𝙜𝙞𝙜𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙡𝙪𝙝𝙤, 𝙥𝙖𝙖𝙣𝙤 𝙥𝙖 𝙖𝙣𝙜 𝙥𝙖𝙣𝙜𝙖𝙧𝙖𝙥 𝙣𝙜 𝙗𝙖𝙮𝙖𝙣?

On this special day, let us take the time to be with our loved ones, whether we choose to stay at home or go outside to enjoy the day together. 𝗙𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗹𝘆 bonding allows us to communicate, understand one another more deeply, and create lasting memories that will always remain in our hearts.

At the end of the day, what matters most is not where we are but who we are with. A house: no matter how grand or simple, becomes a true home when it is filled with love and the presence of family.

Even a piece of hate, left to linger in someone’s heart, can destroy and kill a thousand. Why don’t you ask yourself—ask your heart. What causes this never-ending cruelty?

Miscommunication among nations—triggering violence causing war in our world. However, war is evitable—with great communication across our nations we can build a productive and progressive society for our people.

A single piece of peace in our hearts can make a difference. Because peace starts within ourselves and expanding this peace can amplify beyond yourself—but to people. Blocking miscommunication and ambiguity towards the other nations, could lead to a safe and prosperous world.

On this very day, let’s remain steadfast in bravery and commitment—fostering a peaceful world for the kids and our people. In the midst of these conflicts, let’s remain sturdy and believe in hope—violence will never satisfy your yearning for dominion.

Let these fragments of peace within our hearts ablaze—to speak up for peace among nations, stop the wars, protect the innocents, believe in hope, and restore those dreams that were obscured.

A single light grants us hope and upholds grandeur for the future. On this day, we celebrate and pray for ceaseless serenity.
