Out of the 31 students who came in to claim a spot, only one came out on top.
Yzl Beatriz Taguines, a young girl with a bright smile, has earned a post-worthy title as one of the Top 10 winners at PSPC 2025!
She might be small, but thanks to her, she marked a glorious moment for Glory Dei Montessori College (GDMC) of Santa Ignacia, Tarlac for the school year 2025โ2026. The road has been rough and bodies may ache, but the young members of the journalism club, The Deily, are determined to bring home the glory.
After a long month of hard work, filled with anticipation and trembling confidence, the literary students finally faced their competition at the annual Private Schools Press Conference (PSPC).
The rays of the morning sun greeted the many participantsโreminding them to value the time the day had brought.
Yzl probably knew this already.
Though only 10 years old and never having won in the previous PSPC as a photojournalist, the Grade 5 student never gave up. She went in and tried again. She listened closely to what her adviser and trainer taught her and diligently remembered their lessons when her hands touched the camera.
So many pictures were takenโso many moments to captureโeach needing to be at the right time and in the right place.
She was part of the first batch to compete. Sports Writing, Copyreading, and Feature Writing were held on Friday along with Photojournalism, so the results from the judges on her photographs were announced the following week.
That moment finally came.
Sir Arman and Sir Lloyd, the two overseers of GDMCโs young journalists, practically had their mouths drop and shouted from their seats. Everyone else in the club did too. Almost everyone in the school jumped for joy at the news.
With the lucky number on her side, Yzl placed No. 7 among the Top 10 winners in Junior Photojournalism (English category).
She, who hadnโt been on the top roster last year, now has the chance to enter the District Schools Press Conference (DSPC)โanother golden moment for GDMC.
Four students last year made it into the Top 10, making history for the school in Santa Ignacia. They may not have taken home the gold or advanced further, but itโs undeniable that they ran so Yzl could walk to the top.
Now that GDMC is back to compete at the DSPC with a new player in the game, Yzl will surely take the perfect shotโone that will last a lifetime, not just for the school, but for herself.
