Beating the summer, tips on how to keep the place of your pooch cool and overheating / heat stroke preventives.

Matindi po ang init ngayon and napaka daming death cases due to heat stroke. I hope makatulong po ito.

Signs your dog is overheating:

1. Excessive panting or fast noisy breathing
2. Bright red or blue gums
3. Convulsion
4. Collapsing
5. Vomiting
6. Diarrhea

First aid:

1. Transfer your dog in cool well ventilated place. Hindi po cold place na may AC, cool place only.

2. Give cool drinking water in small increments, again not cold or iced water.

3. Wet your dog with cool tap water, you may use wet towel. Wet the foot pads.

4. Put an ice pack in the groin or singit and underarm area.

5. Using an electric fan will help.

6. Rush your pooch to your vet, let the clinic know you’re on the way, so the team can be prepared to act quickly once you arrived.

Ways to keep your pooch cool during summer:

1. Keep your pooch is shaded, well ventilated area.
2. Make sure they have an access to cool clean drinking water ALL THE TIME.

3. Using cooling pads will help.

4. Bathe them regularly.

5. Spraying mist in their face and food pads.

6. Plan your walk/jogging in early morning or late afternoon or night. Avoid excessive exercise.

7. Protect your dog’s paws in hot surfaces.

8. Use up their energy in different ways, do not limit their activities in walking or jogging during summer. Using frozen treat toys or food puzzle toys are good options to release their stocked energy.

9. Give frozen treats, like homemade dog friendly popsicles.
