How could someone walk daily with a perfect Master and still choose the wrong path?
Judas lived in the very presence of Jesus, heard His teachings, witnessed His miracles, and saw divine love in action, yet his heart slowly drifted away. Scripture records that even after years of following Christ, “Satan entered into Judas” (Luke 22:3), revealing that outward association does not guarantee inward surrender. Being close to the truth is not the same as being transformed by it. Jesus Himself said, “Have not I chosen you twelve, and one of you is a devil?” (John 6:70), showing that proximity to holiness does not automatically change the heart. One may walk beside the Light of the world and still choose darkness.
This reality speaks deeply to brethren who believe they are serving God, yet only heaven truly knows the motives within. It is possible to preach, sing, teach, or lead while the heart remains divided. Judas carried the money bag and appeared faithful. Outward ministry can hide inward compromise. But the Lord reminds us, “Man looketh on the outward appearance, but the Lord looketh on the heart” (1 Samuel 16:7). Service without surrender becomes performance, and activity without devotion becomes empty before God.
Even with the perfect leader and flawless example before us, we still retain the freedom to choose another path. Jesus did not fail Judas; Judas chose thirty pieces of silver over eternal fellowship. The painful truth is that we can know what is right and still resist it, for “the heart is deceitful above all things” (Jeremiah 17:9). The danger lies not in ignorance but in small, unchecked decisions that slowly harden the soul. Every day we stand at a crossroads between self-will and surrender, between appearance and authenticity.
Today, God is calling us to examine our hearts before Him. He is asking us to choose obedience over convenience, and fully surrender to Christ so that our service may truly reflect genuine devotion.
