๐‚๐€๐Œ๐๐”๐’ ๐๐„๐–๐’ | GMNHS Conducts First Aid Training for STEM 12 Students

To equip students with life-saving skills, Gil Montilla National High School (GMNHS) conducted a First Aid Training for Grade 12 STEM students on September 15, 2025.

The training aimed to provide essential knowledge and practical skills in administering basic first aid during emergencies.

Senior High School Disaster Risk Reduction and Resilience (DRRR) coordinator, Francis John P. Calamay, opened the program with a message highlighting the goals of first aid: to preserve life, prevent conditions from worsening, and promote recovery.

Guest speaker John Michael Magbanua demonstrated practical first-aid applications, focusing on the proper use of a triangular bandage for various injuries, such as wounds, fractures, burns, and bruises. He later encouraged student participation to ensure they could apply the techniques effectively.

โ€œEach household must have at least one family member who knows how to perform first aid activities,โ€ Magbanua said, emphasizing that such knowledge can make a significant difference in ensuring safety and survival during emergencies.

Another speaker, Jhee Arman F. Lirazan, discussed the definition and goals of first aid, as well as essential procedures such as primary and secondary surveys, recovery position, and treatment for injuries and conditions, including choking, puncture wounds, eye and nose injuries, burns, heart attacks, and heat stroke.

The training concluded with student demonstrations of the skills they had acquired, reinforcing the importance of preparedness and quick response in times of disaster.

Gil Montilla National High School officially commenced its Teachersโ€™ Month celebration on September 8, 2025, with a program held right after the flag ceremony.

Junior High School Coordinator Marjorie B. Umagtang opened the celebration with meaningful remarks, saying, โ€œWe gather to honor the men and women who light the path of learning with dedication, passion, and excellence,โ€ emphasizing the immeasurable commitment of teachers in guiding every learnerโ€™s journey.

The program proper began with the announcement of the mechanics, allowing students to learn about the different activities planned for the month-long tribute.

One of the most heartfelt moments came during the SSLGโ€™s serenade. Students approached their advisers and handed them tokens of appreciationโ€”small yet meaningful gestures that spoke volumes of their gratitude.

The opening program served as a formal first step into the month-long celebration. More importantly, it provided a moment of reflection, reminding the GMNHS family of the ever-present guiding hand of teachers and the invaluable role they play in shaping young lives.

๐‚๐€๐Œ๐๐”๐’ ๐๐„๐–๐’ | Unity in Motion: GMNHS Senior High Strands Forge Stronger Bonds in Teambuilding and Color Party Celebration

Held on the afternoon of August 8, 2025, at the campus grounds of Gil Montilla National High School, Senior High School students from different strands strengthened bonds and celebrated unity through a team building event and a lively color party filled with games, music, and shared laughter.

After their historic domination of the department that morning, the HUMSS strand carried their momentum into a spirited team building celebration under the leadership of Edgar David Z. Cuaycong along with the strand officers, holding their activities on the ground and third floor in an exhilarating atmosphere where games included the human centipede and melting ice using only their hands, while other strands gathered to watch the intriguing event as the seniors threw water balloons at the juniors, and despite technical difficulties, they carried out the event with grace and eloquence.

Led by Zhander Jake Tejada and Paula Jashryn Balinas, the STEM strand kicked off with attention-catching yell performances from each section that declared their pride in their strand, and the academic building seemed to listen with awe as they started with a bang, lifting spirits high and sparking laughter with humorous โ€œtransjejeโ€ outfits even before the games began, while activities like the lively โ€œPutukan naโ€ and the longest line challenge kept the energy rushing through the field, and although rain drizzled over the grounds, the cheers, playful shouts, and unshaken teamwork of the participants proved their joy was stronger than the weather.

Shaking the covered court with unrelenting movement, the ABM, Maritime, and CSS strands began with a Zumba warm-up that got everyone moving to the beat, then quickly jumped into Eat What You Get where Maritime claimed victory, followed by a fast-paced grade-level food relay that saw Grade 12 emerge triumphant, before ending with a tense and exciting Flip the Bottle match in which CSS secured the final win, and throughout the games, cheers and friendly teasing blended into one constant sound that showed how rivalry and camaraderie could thrive side by side.

As the bidding grew, the tension showed, and Ma'am Janice P. Bilbao led the program for the Cookery, Home Economics, Automotive, EIM, Industrial Arts, OAP, SMAW, and ALS strands, spotlighting the event with the auction of students that began at โ‚ฑ1 and rose to the highest bid of โ‚ฑ150; students who did not participate in the program were then playfully โ€œpunishedโ€ by being blindfolded, arranged in rows, and asked to perform certain acts, and though the weather did not go as planned, the light rain was barely felt on their skin as shouts of fun filled the air.

As the afternoon light softened and the dayโ€™s events drew to a close, DJ Greg set the rhythm for the long-awaited Color Party, and in an instant, the school grounds erupted into music, laughter, and clouds of powder that painted the air in vibrant colors, while students from every strand danced, jumped, and sang along until the crowd became one single moving wave of joy, and the fading sunlight caught every burst of color as if sealing the moment into memory, leaving the campus filled with the warmth of unity and the promise that such afternoons would never be forgotten.

๐‚๐€๐Œ๐๐”๐’ ๐๐„๐–๐’ | GMNHS Joins Sipalay Coastal Clean-up to Promote Sustainable Tourism

Gil Montilla National High School joined the Barangay Nauhang Massive Coastal Clean-up Drive in Barangay Nauhang, Sipalay City, on August 1, 2025, as part of a citywide initiative to promote sustainable tourism and environmental stewardship.

Led by the Sipalay City Tourism Development and Promotion Office under the leadership of Supervising Tourism Operations Officer ENP Jerick H. Lacson, MBA-HTM, the activity was conducted in partnership with the Barangay Nauhang Council.

The cleanup drive was organized across three focus areas: Sugar Beach, Purok Bukana, and Purok Saka-Sakaโ€”with specific teams designated to handle each site.

โ€œI felt proud being a Sipalaynon because we showed the spirit of ugyonโ€”unity not just for an activity, but for an advocacy,โ€ said Lacson. โ€œThe beaches are our main tourist attraction, so taking care of it isnโ€™t just a responsibilityโ€”itโ€™s part of our culture as disciplined and environmentally aware Sipalaynons,โ€ he added.

Among those who joined were the Philippine Armyโ€™s 15th IB 3IB, who promoted the message โ€œNo to Terrorism, Letโ€™s Go Tourism,โ€ attributed to LTC ELMAR L SALVADOR INF (GSC) PA, Commanding Officer of the 15IB.

โ€œSee that there's 'error' in the word terrorism, while there's 'OUR' in tourism. OUR means tinatangkilik at inaalagaan natin ang sariling atinโ€”thatโ€™s why we say No to Terrorism, Letโ€™s Go Tourism,โ€ stated 2LT FRAYLENE D BUYAGAWON (INF) PA.

The event saw participation from a wide range of groups, including the Barangay Nauhang Council, Peopleโ€™s Organization, Sipalay City ENRO, Police Station, BJMP, Philippine Coast Guard, Bureau of Fire Protection, various local schools and organizations from Cantaca Elementary School, Nauhang Primary School, Gil M. Montilla Elementary School, CPSU Future Leaders of the Philippines, CPSU Supreme Student Government (SSG), GMNHS BSP, GSP, SSLG, YES Organization, The Reaper Staff, Ang Tagapag-Ani Staffs, and uniformed personnel from the Sipalay City Bureau of Fire Protection, Charlie Company โ€“ 15th Infantry Battalion Philippine Army, 604th Company of the Regional Mobile Force Battalion 6 (RMFB 6), and Charlie Company โ€“ 605th Ready Reserve Battalion (NOC) also joined the activity.

After two hours of cleanup, the Sipalay City Mobile Kitchen from the LGU of Sipalay City served warm soup and bread, filling the tummies of the same people who made the event successful.

Owing to the collective efforts of all involved, the Sipalay community once again demonstrated its resilience and unityโ€”living up to its title as โ€œThe Jewel of the South.โ€
