2 SCRIBES BAG DSPC AWARDS

Around 100 campus journalists (CJ), competing for each nine individual categories, two Northern Gem (NG) scribes bagged awards in the recently concluded three-day DSPC 2025, Jan. 30 - Feb. 1, at Cebu City National Science High School.

It's a repeat for Ryle Romeo Villafuerte who won third place in photo journalism which qualifies him for the regionals. He was also last year's second best PJ (photo journalism) in his first year as a campus journalist.

Vera Tracy Cosido, a Grade 9 SPFL newbie, won fourth place in editorial cartooning.

The NG scribes were all teary eyed as these last two categories were announced. They had almost lost hope until Mabolo National High School was called out following the names of the CJs as winners.

A wave of astonishment and joy washed over NG scribes. Cheers erupted, faces lit up with newfound excitement, and the once bleak atmosphere transformed into a vibrant celebration.

Meanwhile, English SPA Angelique B. Villafuerte was elected as the PIO of Cebu City Division School Paper Advisers Association.

Congratulations, CJs. Thank you for making us proud.

All glory to God for these wins!

Grade 7 Students Reveal Middle School Life Expectations
By: Kieth Niña Deliña ( Campus Journalist Trainee )

As students shift from elementary to high school, they are filled with anticipation and excitement about the new challenges and opportunities that await them. Recently, we had the chance to interview several grade 7 students and ask them about what they look forward to in their high school lives.

Both Chloe Jilliane Secuya and Tracy Barcenas from the gr 7 SPFL class of MNHS, section Deligence, expect to learn more about the language and culture that this special subject can offer, along with meeting new people and creating new friendships.

As friendship is an essential part of any student's school experience, grade 7 pupils are no different. Many of the students we spoke with were excited about the chance of meeting new friends and forming new relationships in high school.

This relationship does not only stop with friendship, but also expands to the relationship with nature as Jelbern Montilla, a student from section Kindness, expects cleanliness as he goes along his way to create new bonds.

Another aspect of high school that students were eagerly anticipating was the opportunity to participate in extracurricular activities. John Amber Garciano from grade 7 - Kindness expressed “I want to experience more Science stuff”.

While high school might feel like a remote concept to grade 7 students, they are aware that their performance in middle school is critical for their future academic options. Ma. Fatima Salve from grade 7 - Generosity stated that “Now that I’m in high school, I expect my friends to be more mature and honest. I also hope our teacher won’t be too harsh on us and discipline us properly.”

The transition to high school is an exhilarating phase for 7th-grade students. Apart from exploring new subjects and engaging in extracurricular activities, they also have a chance to make new friends, assert their independence, and develop personally. During my conversation with the students, I could comprehend they are thrilled and eager to take on these challenges and make the best of their middle school experience.

Students slay first day pics
By: Brent Gesmundo (Campus Journalist Trainee)

It’s back-to-school time, and MNHS students didn't come to play but to slay!

As another school year unfolds, MNHS has prepared something fun and exciting for the students to enjoy. The SSLG has come up with a creative technique to make every students' return to school more memorable with a trendy back-to-school photo booth! The goal of this effort is to convey the essence of a new beginning rather than just take photographs to commemorate the students’ return. It is relevant that everyone has faced difficulties in recent years, but students in particular have had to continually adjust to new social and academic norms. The photo booth serves as a reminder that despite changes, the sense of community within the school is greater than ever.

Don’t miss the fun! Have your camera and poses ready because the campus welcomes you with a trendy photo-booth located near the school library where everyone could strike a pose with various amusing pop-ups with fun statements.

Strike a pose but more so strike while the iron is hot as you enter into another wonderful journey in MNHS!

Arriba Mabolonistas!
