Saint Maximilian Kolbe, known for his deep faith, courage, and ultimate sacrifice, is recognized as the ๐—ฃ๐—ฎ๐˜๐—ฟ๐—ผ๐—ป ๐—ฆ๐—ฎ๐—ถ๐—ป๐˜ ๐—ผ๐—ณ ๐—”๐—บ๐—ฎ๐˜๐—ฒ๐˜‚๐—ฟ ๐—ฅ๐—ฎ๐—ฑ๐—ถ๐—ผ ๐—ข๐—ฝ๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐—ฎ๐˜๐—ผ๐—ฟ๐˜€. As an amateur radio operator with the callsign ๐—ฆ๐—ฃ๐Ÿฏ๐—ฅ๐—ก, he used radio communication to share messages of faith, hope, and love.

His legacy reminds us that technology is most meaningful when it is used in the service of others. May his life and sacrifice continue to inspire amateur radio operators around the world to use our skills, our stations, and our communications to serve our communities, help others, and promote goodwill.

Jesus made the disciples get into the boat and go on ahead to the other side while he would send the crowds away. After sending the crowds away he went up into the hills by himself to pray. When evening came, he was there alone, while the boat, by now far out on the lake, was battling with a heavy sea, for there was a head-wind. In the fourth watch of the night he went towards them, walking on the lake, and when the disciples saw him walking on the lake they were terrified. โ€˜It is a ghostโ€™ they said, and cried out in fear. But at once Jesus called out to them, saying, โ€˜Courage! It is I! Do not be afraid.โ€™ It was Peter who answered. โ€˜Lord,โ€™ he said โ€˜if it is you, tell me to come to you across the water.โ€™ โ€˜Comeโ€™ said Jesus. Then Peter got out of the boat and started walking towards Jesus across the water, but as soon as he felt the force of the wind, he took fright and began to sink. โ€˜Lord! Save me!โ€™ he cried. Jesus put out his hand at once and held him. โ€˜Man of little faith,โ€™ he said โ€˜why did you doubt?โ€™ And as they got into the boat the wind dropped. The men in the boat bowed down before him and said, โ€˜Truly, you are the Son of God.โ€™

๐—ช๐ก๐จ ๐š๐ฆ ๐ˆ, ๐ซ๐ž๐š๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ฒ? It's a question we don't often stop to ask. In the busyness of life, it's easy to define ourselves by our successes, failures, or what others think of us. But our deepest identity isn't found in any of these things โ€” it's found in the truth that we are beloved sons and daughters, created in the image and likeness of God.

Self-knowledge isn't about being overly critical of yourself or pretending your weaknesses don't exist. It's about having the honesty to let God meet you as you are. When we stop running from our imperfections and remember that we are created in His image and deeply loved, we begin to see ourselves more truthfully, and that's often where healing, freedom, and growth begin.

The Story of Barrio Suba
Long before it became known as Barrio Suba, the community was fondly called Barrio Tindahan. The name came naturally because many of the homes had small neighborhood stores, or mga tindahan, where families bought their daily needs and gathered to exchange stories. These humble shops became the heart of the barrio, giving it an identity that generations would remember.
Flowing beside the community is the majestic Mainit River, whose waters have long provided life and livelihood to the people. In earlier times, crossing the river was often difficult, especially during heavy rains. This changed when President Ferdinand E. Marcos initiated the construction of the Mainit Bridge, connecting Barrio Suba with neighboring communities and opening new opportunities for trade, education, and travel.
During the days when the place was still known as Barrio Tindahan, the community was led by Teniente del Barrio Gaudencio Ebardo Cualteros. Born in Maria Clara, Maasin, Southern Leyte, he built his livelihood through the buying and selling of abaca, one of the regionโ€™s most valuable agricultural products at the time. His hard work, leadership, and dedication earned him the respect of the people, helping guide the barrio through years of growth and development.
Today, although the name has changed from Barrio Tindahan to Barrio Suba, its rich history lives on through the memories of its people, the enduring Mainit River, the bridge that united communities, and the legacy of leaders like Gaudencio Ebardo Cualteros, whose contributions remain an important part of the barrioโ€™s heritage.
