Toxic people are experts at twisting the truth to suit their narrative. They never share the full storyâonly the parts that paint them as the victim while making others look like the villain. This manipulation allows them to gain sympathy, avoid accountability, and shift the blame onto those they have wronged.
When conflicts arise, a toxic person will carefully select which details to share, leaving out the parts where they were at fault. If they were disrespectful, manipulative, or dishonest, they wonât mention it. Instead, they will exaggerate your reaction, making it seem unreasonable or cruel. They frame situations in a way that makes others question your actions while reinforcing their victimhood.
This one-sided storytelling is a powerful tool. It influences how others perceive you, turning friends, family, or even colleagues against you. The goal is to isolate you and gain control over the narrative.
If you find yourself constantly defending your actions while a toxic person plays the victim, take a step back. You donât have to prove yourself to those who only hear one side of the story. Recognising this tactic is the first step to protecting yourself from emotional manipulation and reclaiming your truth.
