As someone who’s been trying so hard to find a decent job here in the Philippines, it breaks my heart how companies ask for so much — years of experience, a long list of skills, even a college degree — yet offer salaries that can’t even cover rent, food, and daily needs. It’s like no matter how hard we work to become qualified, it’s never enough. You walk into an interview hopeful, only to leave feeling small, undervalued, and questioning your worth.
It’s painful, especially when you see your parents struggling or your siblings needing help, and you can’t even promise them stability. I know people who are smart, passionate, and willing to work — but they’re forced to settle for less or leave the country just to survive. We’re not asking for luxury… just enough to live with dignity, to feel that our efforts mean something. It’s exhausting to keep trying when the system seems so unfair.—
