The Sorsogon State University (SorSU)โ€“Sorsogon City Campus celebrated the excellence of the student awardees under the College of Teacher Education (CoTEd) during the Recognition Day 2026 held yesterday, June 4, at the SorSU CBM Hall 1.

Students from different years and programs under the college received medals and certificates for their contributions and achievements in academics, technological skills, sports, leadership, and culture and arts.

In his opening message, Dr. Alfonso L. Garcia Jr., CoTEd Dean, acknowledged the accomplishments and the dedication of the student awardees in education.

โ€œAs we recognize the outstanding achievements across academics, technological skills, sports, and culture and arts, let us remember that these happenings are milestones, not destinations. As we move forward, let the SorSU core values, humility, excellence, accountability, resiliency, and trustworthiness be the guiding principles of your professional and personal lives,โ€ Dr. Garcia said.

Guest Speaker Maria Diana J. Escultura, Teacher III at Sablayan Elementary School in Juban, Sorsogon, narrated her journey on becoming a professional teacher, highlighting her struggles, accomplishments, and the values she has learned throughout.

โ€œIn coastal school, I am needed not because hindi ako kagalingan but because I will create learners who will soon be great,โ€ Mrs. Escultura shared.

Moreover, Prof. Anabell A. Manga, Program Chair of BSEd English, reminded the awardees to be responsible citizens and their duty in shaping the critical thinking skills of their future students.

โ€œAs college of teacher education students, we expect you to be responsible citizens of the country to discern whatโ€™s right and wrong, especially with whatโ€™s happening in the country so I hope as future teachers, you know how to shape the thoughts of your students, and we should always make our students be better than us with the way that they think,โ€ Prof. Manga expressed.

The event ended with the singing of the SorSu Hymn and a photo opportunity.

Awardees received distinctions in academic excellence, academic contests, technological skills, sports, culture and arts, and leadership, as well as service awards.

Recipients of certificates as assistant and associate midwives were also recognized during the ceremony.

In her welcome remarks, CoHaS Dean Dr. Teresa Haide R. Belgica reminded students that success extends beyond academic recognition and should be reflected in the values they uphold and the impact they make on others.

โ€œTrue achievement is not measured solely by the awards received, but by the values we uphold, the knowledge we gain, the dreams we seek, and the positive impact we create in the lives of others,โ€ Dr. Belgica said.

Meanwhile, guest speaker Mary Rezy B. Geva, RN, MN, noted that while digital innovations continue to improve healthcare delivery, the profession remains rooted in human values and service.

"Compassion, respect, integrity, empathy, service. These are values that no machine, no software, and no artificial intelligence can ever replace,โ€ she said.

Representing the awardees, Julie S. Lastrilla, a fourth-year BS Midwifery student, expressed gratitude to the individuals who supported students throughout their academic journey and emphasized the role of perseverance in achieving success.

โ€œThis award is not only a personal achievement but also a reflection of the dedication, perseverance, and sacrifices shared by many students who continue striving to become future healthcare professionals committed to serving our communities with competence and compassion,โ€ Lastrilla said.

Ngunit may malaking pader na naghihiwalay sa โ€œself-discoveryโ€ at sa ideyang โ€œbinago ako ng pag-ibig.

Sorsogon State University (SorSU) continued the celebration of its 119th Founding Anniversary on May 26 with Employeesโ€™ Day activities held at the Sorsogon City Campus.

Faculty members, non-teaching personnel, university officials, and students from all four campuses โ€” Sorsogon City, Magallanes, Castilla, and Bulan participated in the second day of the three-day celebration.

The day kicked off with a Dance Marathon from Rompeolas to SorSU grounds, followed by a dance challenge competition in which the Castilla and Main campus took center stage, showcasing their vibrant spirits and dance talent through a performance featuring the song "Halukay-Ube" by Sexbomb Girls.

This was followed by an awarding ceremony led by Sir Oliver Garbin, who recognized outstanding participants through the Best Dancer and Best Outfit awards for both faculty and student attendees. Castilla Campus was also declared champion in the group competition.

The celebration proceeded with a Financial literacy program at the covered court, conducted in partnership with LSB, a subsidiary of BPI.

The seminar featured Mr. James Carl Cruz as resource speaker, who discussed fraud awareness by highlighting various forms of financial fraud and sharing practical tips on making informed financial decisions.

Subsequently, sports and recreational activities took place across the Covered Court and campus grounds, drawing enthusiastic participation in basketball, tug of war, sack race, patintero, and basag palayok.

In the afternoon, employees gathered in front of the Education Building for the Bingo Social, where participants competed for prizes and enjoyed an opportunity to interact with colleagues from different campuses and offices.

Meanwhile, Students' Day activities were conducted online pursuant to SSC Memorandum No. 03, s. 2026 issued by the Supreme Student Council. The initiative was designed to promote accessibility and participation among students through virtual platforms as part of the anniversary celebration.

The day's activities culminated in the much-anticipated basketball championship game between the Main Campus Teaching Personnel (Team A) and the Main Campus Security and Personnel (Team ๐Ÿ˜Ž. She specifically recognized and honored the efforts of the campus drivers, security guards, and faculty members, acknowledging that their consistent commitment, hard work, and dedication are vital in maintaining the smooth operation and warm atmosphere of the institution every single day.

The awarding served as a heartfelt recognition to the students and faculty who have displayed outstanding performances over the years.

Following the awarding ceremonies, SorSU also marked a significant milestone with an oath-taking ceremony for the newly appointed SorSU employees.

The festivities officially concluded with the highly anticipated announcement of the Booth Competition winners:
