Dressed in white uniforms, the graduates of Sorsogon State University (SorSU) gathered for their Baccalaureate Ceremony on June 27, 2025, at the Sorsogon Sports Arena, Sorsogon City, honoring their academic milestones and celebrating achievements beyond measure.

Presided over by Most Rev. Jose Alan Dialogo, Bishop of Sorsogon, the Baccalaureate Mass served as a moment of thanksgiving and spiritual reflection. It marked the culmination of years of academic dedication and personal growth for the Class of 2025 from the four campuses: Sorsogon City, Bulan, Magallanes, and Castilla.

โ€œYou are not entering a world of uncertainty alone. You are being sent forth with hearts strengthened by trials and anchored in the love of Christ,โ€ Rev. Dialogo said in his homily. He urged the graduates to embody resilience, compassion, integrity, faith, hope, gratitude, humility, commitment to others, and a deep sense of justice and mercyโ€”virtues that define a true champion in life.

Despite the light rain, the Solidarity Night began with student leaders parading with the flags of their respective colleges. Represented were the College of Business and Management, College of Technology, College of Engineering and Architecture, College of Health and Sciences, College of Teacher Education, and the Graduate School from the Sorsogon City Campus; the College of Agriculture from the Castilla Campus; the College of Information and Communication Technology from the Bulan Campus; and the College of Business, Management, and Education and the College of Fisheries from the Magallanes Campus.

This was followed by the Entrance of Colors by ROTC cadets and the solemn singing of the national anthem, conducted by Arriane R. Duazo, a third-year Bachelor of Physical Education student. The presentation of graduating students, faculty, and non-teaching personnel came next, highlighting the unity and contribution of the entire SorSU community.

An emotional audio-visual presentation set the atmosphere, evoking memories of the graduatesโ€™ academic journey.

โ€œNgunit narito tayoโ€”nakatindigโ€”buo man o sugatan, pagod ngunit matatag, sa tamang lugar, sa tamang panahon. Hindi tayo nahuhuli, hindi tayo napag-iiwanan. Ito ang ating oras. Ito ang ating sandali,โ€ emphasized Jaime M. Laura, a graduating Bachelor of Secondary Education Major in Filipino, in his Words of Gratitude.

He was followed by Manuel V. Silencio, USC President and Student Regent, who gave the Words of Thanks. Hanggang sa ang ending: Itulog na lang natin โ€˜to,โ€ he said, capturing the struggles and camaraderie that defined their journey.

โ€œIn your moment of success, remember all those persons and the entire community who contributed to who you are now, what you became, even in small ways,โ€ said Dr. Geraldine F. De Jesus, SUC President III, in her Words of Inspiration. She expressed pride in the graduating class, recognizing their role in shaping the identity and progress of SorSU.

The Entrance of the Torch, carried by marshals, followed as a symbol of knowledge and achievement, as Hannah Sucayan, a graduating Bachelor of Secondary Education Major in English put an emphasis on its relevance to their academic endeavors. Soon after, the Candle-Lighting Ceremony transformed the dim arena into a solemn display of light, hope, and gratitude, accompanied by the tribute songs โ€œMapaโ€ by SB19 and โ€œHandogโ€ by Florante.

This was followed by the Signing of Uniforms, a tradition marking the end of their academic journey and the memories formed along the way. The atmosphere was made even more emotional by the performance of Lea Salongaโ€™s โ€œJourney,โ€ rendered by Instrumentos de Cordo.

As the celebration drew to a close, the graduates joined in singing the SorSU Hymn, conducted by Jay Mar J. San Buenaventura, a third-year Bachelor of Culture and Arts Education student, in honor of their Alma Mater. The event ended on a dazzling note as fireworks lit up the night sky, echoing cheers and emotional farewells.

This yearโ€™s Baccalaureate Ceremony stood as an unforgettable milestone, symbolizing the transition of the Class of 2025 toward new challenges, with the memories of their SorSU journey lighting the way forward.

The 32nd Commencement Exercises will follow at the Sorsogon Convention Center, Sorsogon City, with ceremonies scheduled on June 30 for the College of Business and Management and College of Technology majors in Automotive, Architectural Drafting, Electrical, and Food Service Management Technologies; on July 1 for BS Midwifery and the Castilla, Magallanes, and Bulan Campuses; and on July 2 for College of Technology majors in Civil, Electronics, Garments, Mechanical, and Welding and Fabrication Technologies, as well as the College of Teacher Education and the College of Engineering and Architecture. The Graduate School ceremony will take place on July 3, 2025, at the Audio-Visual Hall of Sorsogon State University, Sorsogon City Campus.

Sorsogon State University (SorSU) honored the outstanding achievements of its students during the 2025 Recognition Day, on June 20, at SorSU Audio-Visual Hall.

Awardees from various collegesโ€”the College of Teacher Education (CoTEd), College of Business and Management (CBM), College of Engineering and Architecture (CoEA), College of Technology (CoT), and College of Health and Sciences (CoHaS)โ€”were gathered.

Students were recognized across several categories: awards were given for academic excellence to those with high general weighted averages across programs; and others were honored for technical proficiency, sports achievements, leadership, service, and contributions to culture and the arts.

With the theme โ€œRecognizing Excellence: Life Champions, Future-Ready SorSUeรฑos,โ€ the ceremony opened with a prayer led by Donna Faye D. Brioso, academic excellence awardee.

Subsequently, Dr. Telesforo D. Escoto, Campus Director, acknowledged the awardees as examples of the universityโ€™s growing culture of achievement. He encouraged them to continue striving for excellence in both professional and personal capacities.

One of the programโ€™s highlights was the keynote speech by Mrs. Donna Lyn M. Geronimo, LPT, a 2024 Dangal ng Bayan awardee. In her address, she emphasized the importance of adaptability and resilience in the pursuit of success, urging students to match their academic skills with a strong sense of social responsibility. Her message resonated the need for future professionals to be both competent and compassionate in todayโ€™s dynamic landscape.

Representing the awardees, John Paul V. Benitez expressed his gratitude to faculty members, families, and the SorSU community for their guidance and support. He acknowledged that behind every medal or certificate was a shared journey marked by hard work, mentorship, and perseverance.

Furthermore, on his closing remarks, Mr. Kristopher A. Hiloma (SDS Coordinator) congratulated the awardees and encouraged them to carry forward the values they have honed at the university.

The event also featured performances from the SorSU Dance Theater and Cultural Group (DTCG), TAC-SaKaTe, and Instrumentos de Cordo, highlighting the universityโ€™s commitment to nurturing creativity alongside academic performance.

Meanwhile, the event ended with the singing of the SorSU hymn, led by Bryan Manuel M. Leoncito.

Recognition Day 2025 served as a meaningful tribute to student dedication and growth, reinforcing the mission of the university to produce graduates who are academically equipped and resilient to the challenges of the rapidly changing world.
