The Municipal Health Office (MHO) of Lebak urges the public to raise awareness about Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) after recording 19 cases in 2025— a 217% increase compared to the 2024 report with 6 cases.

In the public advisory report, the MHO stated that the number of cases this year has risen to 19, compared to the previous year.

“HIV is a virus that attacks the body's immune system. Without treatment, it can lead to AIDS, which makes the body susceptible to life-threatening infections,” the MHO explained through the Center for Disease Control and Prevention data.

Moreover, the MHO shared the primary modes of HIV transmission.

According to the MHO, HIV is transmitted through: “unprotected sexual contact (vaginal, a**l, or oral) with a person who has HIV; sharing contaminated needles; and mother-to-child transmission during pregnancy, childbirth, and breastfeeding.”

Meanwhile, the agency urges the public to take proactive measures to protect their health and the health of the community by utilizing accessible services.

“The Rural Health Unit (RHU) of Lebak offers HIV awareness services (free and confidential), including the availability of condoms, free HIV testing, and free testing for other sexually transmitted infections (STIs),” the advisory explained.

“Do not let fear or stigma stop you from seeking information and services. HIV is a manageable condition with treatment,” the RHU concluded in a call to action against HIV.

𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻 𝘁𝗼 𝗥𝗲𝗴𝗮𝗶𝗻: 𝗔 𝗥𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗲𝘁 𝗼𝗿 𝗣𝗼𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗥𝗵𝗲𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗰

Senator Alan Peter Cayetano’s recent proposal for a radical reset of the Philippine government has stirred both intrigue and apprehension . In a Facebook post on Sunday – October 5, the Senate Minority Leader suggested that all officials in the executive and legislative branches resign and allow for a snap election. This, he claims, would be a big step towards restoring public trust amid extensive corruption allegations.

Cayetano’s message is clear – the Filipino people has lost faith in their leaders. “Politicians are suspects,” he wrote; echoing a belief that has long smoldered beneath the facade of Philippine politics. His courage to "step aside" and his call for "radical honesty" is a rare concession from someone within the system. It’s a bold move, intending to paint himself not merely as an opponent of corruption, but as an ethical reformist prepared to forfeit authority in pursuit of integrity.

But while the expression is compelling, the practicality of such a proposal is vague. A mass resignation followed by a snap election would require not just political will, but legal transparency, operational alignment, and democratic agreement. Who would administer the transition? How would candidates be assessed to ensure they represent genuine change rather than recycled habits? And can the absent of the sitting official from running be legally enforced without violating on democratic rights?

The idea of a clean slate is provocative, especially in a country where issues have worn away the confidence in institutions. Yet history warns us—that resets without reform often lead to repetition. Without structural changes—such as stronger anti-corruption laws, reinforced integrity laws, independent accountability mechanisms, and citizen involvement —a new set of leaders may simply inherit the same dysfunctional framework.

Cayetano’s proposal may be more about sparking a national conversation and less about immediate implementation. It challenges both the political class and the public to confront the harsh reality: that trust has been misused, that accountability is lacking, and that real change requires more than just phrases.

Whether this is a sincere call to action or a strategic move, remains to be seen. But it has undeniably placed the spotlight on the urgent need for renewal—not just of faces, but of values.

If the senator’s words are to mean anything, they must be followed by clear procedures. Transparency, legislative action, and citizen engagement must support the diction. Otherwise, the call for a radical reset risks becoming just another echo in the chamber of political theatrics.

𝗝𝗨𝗦𝗧 𝗜𝗡: Kanselado ang klase sa buong probinsya ng Maguindanao Del Sur, kabilang ang bayan ng South Upi bukas, ika-9 ng Oktubre dahil sa patuloy na buhos ng ulan dulot ng Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) na nagpapa-ulan sa ilang bahagi ng Mindanao.

Ang kautusan ay alinsunod sa Executive Order No. 023, series of 2025 na nagpapasuspinde ng face-to-face classes sa probinsya.

Ito ay base sa mandato ni Maguindanao Del Sur Governor Hon. Datu Ali Midtimbang. Hinihikayat ng gobernador ang mga residente na mag-ingat.

Samantala, pormal na ina-dopt ng South Upi LGU sa ilalim ng administrasyon ni Hon. Mayor Helen Benito ang nasabing kautusan ngayong gabi.

𝗝𝗨𝗦𝗧 𝗜𝗡: Isang lalaki ang natagpuang patay ngayong umaga sa Refao River, Barangay Kuya, South Upi, Maguindanao Del Sur, ika-23 ng Agosto.

Kasalukuyang nasa area ang South Upi PNP para magsagawa ng imbestigasyon sa nasabing insidente.

Sa inisyal na imbestigasyon, nakatali ang kamay ng biktima sa bandang likuran at binalot ng damit na may tape ang ulong bahagi nito.

Hindi pa malinaw kung ano ang sanhi ng pagkamatay ng nasabing biktima. Standby para sa karagdagang detalye.

Mariing kinundena ni South Upi Mayor Hon. Helen Benito-Padua ang brutal na pananambang ngayong hapon, Hulyo 25, na nagresulta sa pagkamatay ng isang magsasaka at pagkasugat ng kanyang asawa.

Sa isang opisyal na pahayag, sinabi ng alkalde ang kanyang matinding pagdadalamhati sa sinapit ng mag-asawang Mindo, partikular kay Nickasio Mindo, na kilala sa komunidad bilang isang respetadong magsasaka at dating Kagawad ng Barangay Pilar.

Ayon kay Mayor Padua, ang naturang karahasan ay hindi lamang atake sa dalawang inosenteng sibilyan, kundi pati na rin sa kapayapaan at kaayusan ng buong bayan at Bangsamoro.

Nagbigay na rin ng direktiba ang alkalde sa South Upi MPS, AFP, at iba pang kinauukulang ahensya upang magsagawa ng malalim at patas na imbestigasyon sa insidente.

Samantala, nagpaabot ng pakikiramay ang alkalde sa naiwang pamilya ni Nickasio Mindo. Nanawagan din ang mga kaanak, kaibigan, at kakilala ng biktima ng makatarungang hustisya.

Patay sa ambush ang isang magsasaka habang sugatan naman ang asawa nito sa bahagi ng Barangay Romongaob, South Upi, Maguindanao Del Sur ngayong hapon, ika-25 ng Hulyo.

Kinilala ang nasawing biktima na si Necasio Mindo, nasa hustong gulang, may-asawa at residente ng nasabing bayan.

Sa inisyal na impormasyon, habang binabaybay ng mga biktima ang isang pa-akyat na kalsada sa bahagi ng Letter S., Sitio Lénan, Barangay Romongaob, walang awang pinagbabaril ang mga biktima na nagresulta sa pagkamatay ni Necasio at pagkasugat ng kanyang asawa.

Nagsasagawa na ngayon ng malalimang imbestigasyon ang South Upi MPS para matukoy ang motibo at posibleng suspek sa likod ng nasabing krimen.

Ngayong araw ay ginugunita ang ika-6 na anibersaryo ng 𝗡𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗖𝗮𝗺𝗽𝘂𝘀 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗙𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗱𝗼𝗺 𝗗𝗮𝘆 alinsunod sa Republic Act No. 11440, na naisabatas noong Hulyo 25, 2019.

Layunin ng batas na ito na kilalanin ang mahalagang papel ng mga estudyanteng mamamahayag sa pagsusulong ng katotohanan, karapatan, at hustisya para sa sambayanan.

Ang 𝗣𝗔𝗚𝗟𝗔𝗨𝗠, 𝗦𝗔𝗥𝗜𝗚 𝗮𝘁 𝗣𝗔𝗚Ì𝗡𝗔𝗪𝗔, sa ilalim ng operasyon ng 𝗣𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗽𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗖𝗮𝗺𝗽𝘂𝘀 𝗠𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗮 𝗔𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 (𝗣𝗖𝗠𝗔), ay mahigpit na nakikiisa sa panawagang patatagin at palawakin ang suporta para sa peryodismong nagsisilbing haligi ng demokrasya.

Kaugnay nito, ipinapaabot din ng PCMA ang pakikiisa sa ika-94 na anibersaryo ng 𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗴𝗲 𝗘𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘀 𝗚𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗽𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀 (𝗖𝗘𝗚𝗣) sa kanilang matapang na pakikibaka para sa karapatan at representasyon ng mga kabataang mamamahayag sa bansa.

Naninindigan ang PCMA na ang peryodismo ay hindi kailanman hiwalay sa laban para sa karapatan, hustisya, at kapayapaan—𝘀𝗮𝗽𝗮𝗴𝗸𝗮𝘁 𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗶 𝗸𝗮𝗶𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗺𝗮𝗻 𝗻𝗮𝘁𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗹𝗼𝗴 𝗮𝗻𝗴 𝗸𝗮𝘁𝗼𝘁𝗼𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗻.
