🗳️ Gabriela Women’s Party Secures Seat in House of Representatives, Fulfilling Party-List Quota

Metro Manila, Philippines — The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has officially declared the Gabriela Women’s Party as the 64th party-list organization to secure representation in the House of Representatives, pushing the chamber’s party-list allocation to its constitutionally mandated threshold.

Comelec Chair George Erwin Garcia confirmed that former legislator Sarah Elago, who serves as Gabriela’s top nominee, will be taking the oath as the party's official representative. The formal proclamation is scheduled for Wednesday, signaling Gabriela's return to Congress as a voice for women’s rights and grassroots advocacy.

With this development, the party-list bloc in the lower chamber increases from 19.8% to 20.4%, effectively fulfilling the 20% representation requirement outlined in the 1987 Constitution. This benchmark ensures that marginalized and underrepresented sectors are given adequate legislative participation.

Gabriela, known for its staunch advocacy on issues such as gender equality, social justice, and the protection of women’s welfare, rejoins the legislative body amid growing public discourse on gender and human rights in the Philippines.

Stay tuned for further updates as the formal proclamation proceeds.

Time to Wake Up: The Spirit of People Power Must Live On

It has been decades since the 1986 People Power Revolution — a proud moment when millions of Filipinos stood as one to end a dictatorship. It was a historic act of courage, unity, and hope. But today, many are asking: What has changed?

The sad truth is, after the fall of a strongman, what followed were promises — many of which were broken. In place of a single dictator came a parade of leaders, some of whom served not the people, but themselves. The corruption continued. The poor remained poor. The system stayed broken.

It’s disheartening, yes. But should we give up? Absolutely not.

This is not the time for silence or surrender. This is the time to rethink, reform, and rise. If the system is no longer serving the people, then maybe it’s time to change the system — not with anger, but with wisdom, unity, and courage once again.

We must push for real political reforms, constitutional amendments, and laws that reflect the reality of our times — not outdated provisions meant to serve the powerful. The Philippines cannot move forward if we keep recycling leaders from the same elite circles, who treat public office as a business, not a service.

To every Filipino reading this — student, worker, parent, OFW, or farmer — you are not powerless. You are the very soul of this nation. Your voice, your vote, your stand — they matter.

Let us remember the spirit of People Power not as a one-time event, but as a living call to action. Not just to remove a leader, but to transform a nation. A better Philippines is still possible — but it begins with each of us.
