Time to Wake Up: The Spirit of People Power Must Live On
It has been decades since the 1986 People Power Revolution — a proud moment when millions of Filipinos stood as one to end a dictatorship. It was a historic act of courage, unity, and hope. But today, many are asking: What has changed?
The sad truth is, after the fall of a strongman, what followed were promises — many of which were broken. In place of a single dictator came a parade of leaders, some of whom served not the people, but themselves. The corruption continued. The poor remained poor. The system stayed broken.
It’s disheartening, yes. But should we give up? Absolutely not.
This is not the time for silence or surrender. This is the time to rethink, reform, and rise. If the system is no longer serving the people, then maybe it’s time to change the system — not with anger, but with wisdom, unity, and courage once again.
We must push for real political reforms, constitutional amendments, and laws that reflect the reality of our times — not outdated provisions meant to serve the powerful. The Philippines cannot move forward if we keep recycling leaders from the same elite circles, who treat public office as a business, not a service.
To every Filipino reading this — student, worker, parent, OFW, or farmer — you are not powerless. You are the very soul of this nation. Your voice, your vote, your stand — they matter.
Let us remember the spirit of People Power not as a one-time event, but as a living call to action. Not just to remove a leader, but to transform a nation. A better Philippines is still possible — but it begins with each of us.
