Sometimes, when a man sees a woman from his past and feels a spark, it’s not love he’s feeling—it’s nostalgia. Not for who she truly was, but for the version of her he built in his mind. Memory has a way of softening the edges, of painting people in hues they never really wore. Often, she wasn’t everything he remembers—just everything he once hoped she could be.

It’s easy to romanticize someone when you’re holding on to an illusion. But while he’s chasing the shadow of who he thought she was, he might be blind to the woman standing right in front of him—the one who is real, present, and everything the past never gave him.

Real love isn’t about chasing ghosts or clinging to dreams long gone. It’s about opening your eyes, recognizing something rare and honest when it’s right before you, and having the courage not to let it slip away.

“Nakakatawa kayong mga cheaters—akala niyo pagiging marupok, sinungaling, at walang respeto ay personality trait? Hindi yan ‘normal,’ yan ay kawalan ng moralidad. Habang pinagmamalaki niyong ‘ginawa niyo lang ang gusto niyo,’ may mga taong sinira niyo emotionally, mentally, at spiritually. Congrats, hindi kayo malakas—kayo ay basura na marunong lang magtago sa charm at kasinungalingan.”

Let Siargao Remain a Sanctuary, Not a Spectacle

Siargao, with its crystal waters and rolling waves, is not just an island. It is a home. It is the rhythm of fishermen casting nets at dawn, the warmth of shared meals at dusk, and the laughter of children running barefoot under the sun. It is the quiet faith passed down through generations, the dance of traditions unbroken by time, and the deep reverence for nature and community.

This island—like many places across the Philippines—is a refuge for the soul. A place meant to heal wounds, not cause them.

To our foreign guests: You are welcome here. With open arms, we receive those who come in peace, with curiosity and humility. But please remember—you are entering a living culture, not a backdrop for escapism. Respect the hands that built this paradise long before you arrived. The open-mindedness you bring is a gift when paired with wisdom, but when paired with recklessness, it becomes a danger, especially to the eyes of our children who are still learning what is right, what is sacred.

Let not the beaches of Siargao turn into places where innocence is lost. Let not the laughter of young hearts be drowned by the noise of parties or forgotten in the wake of indulgence. The values of our people—simplicity, modesty, hospitality, and quiet dignity—are not weaknesses to be erased, but strengths to be honored.

To our locals: Hold your ground. Be proud of your culture and never be ashamed to say “no” when boundaries are crossed. Kindness does not mean surrender. Respect is mutual, and it is in holding on to our values that we truly show the world who we are.

To our leaders and government: Protect these sacred spaces. Progress should never come at the cost of identity. Do not allow our islands—whether Siargao, Palawan, Bohol, or others—to become havens for exploitation or silence in the face of wrongdoing. Development must have a soul. Tourism must have ethics. And protection must be for all—locals and visitors alike.

The Philippines is not a playground. It is a mosaic of dreams, faith, and generations of love for land and sea. Let us all—Filipinos and foreigners—build a future where our places of peace do not become places of pain.

Let Siargao remain a place of healing.

Let every island, every mountain, every street corner in our country remain touched not by trauma, but by genuine respect.

We all have a role to play.

1. He sees the bigger picture – We only see a small part of our lives, but God knows what’s truly best for us.
2. Protection from harm – Some dreams could lead us to pain, failure, or destruction, so He redirects us.
3. Growth and preparation – We might not be ready for what we want, so He gives us something else to prepare us.
4. Better blessings ahead – What we ask for is small compared to what He actually wants to give us.
5. Not meant for us – Some dreams were never ours to begin with; we only thought they were.
6. Wrong timing – We may receive something similar, but not when we expect it.
7. Stronger faith – When things don’t go as planned, we learn to trust Him more.
8. Character building – He shapes our patience, humility, and perseverance through unexpected paths.
9. To lead us to our true purpose – Our plans might not align with the mission He created us for.
10. Freedom from worldly attachments – Sometimes, our dreams are based on material success, but He wants us to focus on what truly matters.
11. We deserve better – What we want may be too small compared to what He has in store.
12. Avoiding regret – If we got what we wanted, we might later realize it wasn’t right for us.
13. Redirection to greater impact – He wants us to touch more lives in ways we never considered.
14. Healing and restoration – He withholds some things to heal us first from past wounds.
15. Testing our obedience – Will we trust Him even when He says “no”?
16. A lesson in surrender – He wants us to let go of control and allow Him to lead.
17. A deeper joy – What He gives brings lasting fulfillment, unlike temporary happiness.
18. Breaking generational cycles – He may be shifting us away from patterns that no longer serve us.
19. Spiritual awakening – Sometimes, disappointment draws us closer to Him.
20. We wouldn’t have chosen it ourselves – Some of the best blessings come from what we never expected or prayed for.

God’s ways are higher than ours. What seems like a closed door is often the path to something far greater.

Love isn’t just about feelings; it’s about effort, respect, and consistency. Passion fades, but true love is built on trust, understanding, and choosing each other every day—even when it’s hard.

Heartbreak teaches you that love is a gift, not a guarantee. It shows you who truly values you and forces you to find strength within yourself. Let go, grow, and never beg for what should be freely given.

Today, I felt like my dreams got crushed……

but that’s okay.

Dear Future Me,

I know things may feel heavy right now—like the weight of the world is pressing against you. You might be questioning everything: your choices, your path, and even yourself. But remember, you’ve been here before in different forms, and you’ve always found a way to rise.

This journey wasn’t supposed to be easy; you knew that from the start. You chose the road less traveled because you have dreams so big they scare you—and that’s a good thing. Growth never comes from comfort. Every challenge you face now is shaping you into the person you’ve always wanted to become.

Breathe. Pause if you need to, but don’t stop. Look back at how far you’ve come, and remind yourself why you started. You’re not here by accident; you’re here because you’re brave enough to fight for the life you deserve.

You have a fire inside you that refuses to be extinguished. Trust it. Even when the flame flickers, it will never go out. Keep going, one step at a time. The struggles won’t last forever, but the strength you gain will.

Proud of you always,
Your Past Self
