Student leaders of Surigao del Norte State University (SNSU) were urged to recognize the far-reaching consequences of their decisions as university and government officials emphasized accountability, safety, and ethical leadership during the PANAAD โ26 Grand Induction Ceremonies on September 11, 2026, under the theme โRising with Purpose, Leading with Integrity, and Serving with Commitment.โ
Speakers throughout the event stressed that leadership extends beyond holding positions, warning that a single decision made by a student leader can influence organizations, affect communities, and shape the welfare of those they serve.
Organization-in-Charge, Ms. Eden Gliff F. Sebag underscored this message, reminding officers that they were elected or appointed to represent their fellow students and are therefore expected to demonstrate accountability and responsibility in every action.
Ms. Sebag emphasized that ignorance and lack of discipline have no place in leadership, adding that effective leaders must embody confidence, responsibility, discipline, and a genuine commitment to service.
The importance of responsible decision-making was further highlighted by FSINSP Liezl C. Lisondra, Surigao City Fire Marshal, who discussed fire prevention and safety awareness amid persistent fire risks in the city.
Citing the recent fire incident in Barangay Taft that affected hundreds of families, Lisondra warned participants that negligence remains among the leading causes of fire incidents and urged them to become advocates of safety within their organizations and communities.
She encouraged student leaders to observe the Four Pโs of Fire Prevention and Safety: Prevention, Planning, Protection, and Preparedness, and to promote vigilance against potential fire hazards.
The call for responsible leadership also extended to the fight against illegal drugs as PLTCOL Mariano C. Lukban, Chief of Police of Surigao City, discussed the dangers of substance abuse among the youth.
Mr. Lukban explained that illegal drug use can damage a personโs health, education, relationships, and future opportunities, stressing that youth leaders must help foster informed decision-making and serve as role models in their communities.
Meanwhile, Ms. Maria Fe C. Guerra, Director of Student Affairs, discussed organizational accreditation and recognition, emphasizing the importance of proper documentation, compliance with university requirements, and efficient organizational management.
Ms. Guerra also outlined the criteria for the Best Organization recognition, noting that discipline, preparedness, and commitment to institutional standards remain key indicators of organizational excellence.
Participants later attended breakout sessions tailored to their respective positions, with separate discussions conducted for Presidents and Vice Presidents at the gymnasium, Secretaries at the Innovative Room, Treasurers and Auditors at the Learning Commons, and Public Information and Operations officers at the Academic Hall.
PANAAD โ26 served as the universityโs platform for preparing student leaders to navigate their responsibilities with integrity and purpose, reinforcing the message that leadership is ultimately measured not by the title one holds but by the decisions one makes.
