๐๐๐๐ | Three Bachelor of Science in Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering (BSABE) students from Kalinga State University distinguished themselves at the Young Farmers Challenge (YFC) Provincial and Regional Awarding Ceremony held on February 27, 2026, in Baguio City.
Among 30 participants from different provinces who competed in the prestigious youth agribusiness program, Rhea Mishene Generao, Joven Ray Mukay, and Joshua Dao-wan emerged as recognized young agri-entrepreneurs, showcasing innovation, technical knowledge, and strong entrepreneurial vision.
๐Ms. Generao presented Misheneโs Integrated Poultry Fish Farm, an enterprise highlighting integrated farming systems that combine poultry and aquaculture production for improved resource efficiency and sustainability. Her project emphasized waste recycling, diversified income sources, and environmentally responsible practices.
๐Mr. Mukay introduced JRM Hog Farm and Livestock, a venture focused on sustainable hog production and livestock management. His project demonstrated proper breeding management, biosecurity measures, and efficient production strategies aimed at strengthening local meat supply and farm profitability.
๐Meanwhile, Mr. Dao-wan showcased JDโs Hito Production, an aquaculture enterprise specializing in catfish production. His initiative highlighted modern fish culture techniques, water quality management, and market-oriented production planning designed to meet increasing demand for affordable protein sources.
The Young Farmers Challenge Program serves as a platform for empowering young individuals to venture into agribusiness while promoting innovation and sustainability in the agricultural sector. The participation of the three BSABE students underscored the critical role of agricultural and biosystems engineering in advancing farm productivity, efficiency, and technological integration.
Their recognition reflects not only their personal dedication and competence but also the quality education and hands-on training provided by Kalinga State University. Competing among 30 aspiring young farmers across the region, the trio demonstrated that future agricultural engineers are capable of transforming ideas into viable and impactful enterprises.
Their achievement brings pride to the university and serves as inspiration to fellow students to pursue innovation, leadership, and excellence in agriculture.
As the country continues to strengthen youth participation in agribusiness, the success of Generao, Mukay, and Dao-wan affirms that the next generation of agricultural leaders is ready to rise above challenges and contribute meaningfully to sustainable rural development.
