Industrial pump maker Sulzer and Danish start‑up Hyme Energy are teaming up to bring a new kind of “thermal battery” to market. Instead of lithium‑ion cells, the system stores surplus wind or solar electricity as heat inside tanks of molten hydroxide salt (about 600 °C). When factories need steam or hot air, Sulzer’s specialized vertical pumps move the hot salt through a heat‑exchanger, releasing the stored energy on demand.

Why it matters (in plain English):
• ⚡ Cheaper, longer‑lasting storage – Molten salt tanks are made from common materials and can cycle for decades, trimming the cost of storing renewable energy.
• 🔥 Cuts fossil fuel use for industry – Heavy industries (food, chemicals, paper, etc.) often burn gas for process heat. This system can replace that with clean, stored renewable heat.
• 🌍 Scalable & retro‑fittable – Tanks and pumps can bolt onto existing plant infrastructure, so companies don’t need a full rebuild to decarbonize.

If your facility uses a lot of low‑to‑mid‑temperature process heat (below ≈550 °C), start a feasibility study now. Compare your current gas or oil bills with the projected cost of installing a molten‑salt storage unit plus electric heaters—it could slash both emissions and long‑term energy spend.

Sulzer is developing advanced pumps for Hyme Energy’s patented molten hydroxide salt energy storage solution. Building on the success of the pioneering Molten Salts Storage (MOSS) project in Denmark, this subsequent collaboration aims to commercialize the solution.

Today is a Great Day to Go Zero Waste!

Living zero waste doesn’t have to be overwhelming—it starts with one mindful step at a time.

Here are 3 simple actions you can take today to reduce waste:
1. Refuse what you don’t need—say no to freebies and excess packaging.
2. Reuse containers, jars, and cloth bags instead of buying new.
3. Rot your food scraps—start a small compost bin, even on your balcony!

Every item we keep out of the landfill matters. Let’s inspire each other—share your favorite zero waste habit below!
