COMELEC Chairperson, Sir Rone Joseph L. Ytes, led the proclamation ceremony, introducing the new set of student leaders for both National and College Local Government Unit.

John Paul Lacsado, the presidential candidate of Excellence Party, was declared as president of the National Supreme Student Government (NSSG) of the next academic year, together with his vice presidential candidate, Maria Aprilyn Orapa, who ran unopposed and won by default.

Ten senatorial candidates from various colleges and five from VDTALC SHS and UB JHS were also recognized as official members of the UBSSG Senate for the upcoming academic year.

Winners of the college local government unit elections were acknowledged as well as the next administrators of their respective colleges and departments.

However, several elected officers from CBA, CHMTN, CAHS, and CETAFA were absent during the declaration due to prior academic and personal commitments.

In his speech, Lacsado is hoping to provide better services for the UBian communities during his administration next academic year. "Hopefully, in the next school year, ma-improve na atong services sa students kay daghan ang nangita og saktong services," he said.

All elected candidates, from local to national level, are set to present themselves at the IMATO Thanksgiving Ceremony to be held at a date to be announced.

Before truth reaches us, someone has already risked something to find it.

Through noise, through silence, through barriers meant to obscure, it is the press that pushes forward. Journalists ask what others wonโ€™t, listen where others turn away, and bring light to what would otherwise remain unseen.

Freedom of expression gives us the right to speak, but it is the free press that dares to listen, to challenge, and to reveal, especially when truth is dangerous and silence is easier.

On World Press Freedom Day, we do more than recognize journalism, we acknowledge the courage behind it. Because behind every headline is a choice, to pursue truth despite pressure, to report despite threats, to speak when staying silent would be safer.

Where the press is silenced, truth is at risk.
Where the press stands firm, truth survives.

Today, we stand with those who refuse to look away
and with the freedom that makes truth possible.

In Photos | CDRRM Officer Lavadia speaks at USPEAK on Climate Resilience

Tagbilaran City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (CDRRM) Officer Gerard M. Lavadia delivered a talk on Climate Resilience during the USPEAK event held on April 20, 2026, at the University of Bohol Instructional Research Center (UB IRC) Auditorium.

Jonzi Viรฑas, President of Supreme Student Government, greeted all attendees in his welcome message. Viรฑas emphasized that climate change already exists and that we need to adapt and find actions in this issue which the City DRRM Officer discussed in his talk.

Lavadia's in-depth discussion on climate resilience highlighted the two main parts: the climate change and the solutions.

He encouraged students to mitigate and adapt to climate change even in simple ways, educating themselves on environmental issues, and participating in tree planting activities.

At the end of the session, students asked further questions regarding climate resilience and shared ideas on what other ways we can do to lessen the effect of climate change.

Students who attended the activity were given a certificate of participation which also grant them eligibility for attendance exemptions in SSG activities for the second semester of School Year 2025โ€“2026.

A true leader stands beside their constituents, serving them with utmost integrity and leading them with transparency and accountability. One that listens and amplifies the voice of the studentry, creating a government that upholds the university's trinity of virtues: Scholarship, Character, and Service. We put them in power not solely based on their credentials, but also considering their perspective in relevant contents. Their stance on existing and emerging institutional challenges reflects the way they lead the student body.

During the Miting de Avance at the UB Quadrangle yesterday, April 21, 2026, candidates of the National SSGโ€” Desire and Excellence parties, were asked a series of "Like or Dislike" questions in the lightning round segment, showing where they stand on certain key issues, leadership perspectives, and relevant student concerns.

These simple responses are essential for every UBian to recognize competent, trustworthy, and visionary leaders, who have the power to create change and to make a great impact within the university and even beyond.

Today, April 22, 2026, marks the start of the voting period, and every UBian is encouraged to cast their votes on who truly deserves their spot to be a student leader. This is a reminder that every vote has the potential to chart the course of a difference that benefits the student body, and to vote wisely is the way we can achieve that collective goal and purpose.

The University of Bohol (UB), together with the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), led a campus-wide fire drill on April 15, 2026, to familiarize students, employees, and staff with proper evacuation routes and practices.

The rhythmic sound of the long buzzer signaled the start of the drill, prompting students, employees, and clients to vacate classrooms and offices. Under the supervision of UB Management, participants moved toward designated exit points along Dr. Cecilio Putong St., Remolador St., and Palma Street.

Afterwards, UBians gathered at the UB Quadrangle for a brief exercise on how to properly use fire extinguishers led by Tagbilaran City Fire Station fire marshalls. UB staff also tested other equipment to ensure functionality in times of disasters.

The drill is part of the universityโ€™s ongoing commitment to safety and disaster risk reduction, ensuring that every UB community knows exactly how to respond when the alarm sounds.

The COMPESA (Computer Engineering Students Association) and UBYTeS (University of Bohol Young Thinkers Society) students partook in the AI Ready ASEAN Seminar held at the UB IRC Auditorium held on March 31, 2026, featuring Rahel Podobsky-Stucki, Founder and CEO of BANTAYnet, as the resource speaker.

The event formally started with a welcome message from CETAFA Dean, Engr. James P. Uy, who emphasized the importance of AI literacy for students in todayโ€™s age of information.

Subsequently, Ms. Rahel delivered her talk, introducing BANTAYnet, a non-profit organization that aims to empower Filipinos with online safety and digital literacy. She then discussed AI and its background, highlighting the need to understand how AI works and the mechanisms behind it.

Through the Hour of Code, participants were shown a demonstration of how machine learning operates and how AI "just acts upon the information it receives." The seminar also covered best practices for utilizing AI correctly in educational settings, stressing that it should "supplement knowledge, not replace it."

After the informative discussions, a Q&A segment was held, giving participants the opportunity to ask Ms. Rahel questions about the seminar and related topics.

A certificate and token of appreciation were presented to the resource speaker, and the event concluded with a closing message from Engr. Victor John Anunciado, Adviser of COMPESA, noting the seminarโ€™s success and reaffirming its importance in the digital age.
