To all the silent kuyas and ates out there:
Some people are drowning in debt—
not because pabaya sila,
but because tahimik nilang binubuhat ang lahat.
Not all utang comes from luho.
Sometimes, it comes from sacrifice.
From being the panganay na naging second parent.
From helping sa tuition, sa renta, sa gamot—
kahit ikaw, hirap na hirap na rin.
Ang dali sabihin na, “Mag-ipon ka.”
Pero paano kung halos buong sweldo mo,
pangalan ng ibang tao ang pinupuntahan?
We don’t talk about that enough.
We glorify the givers,
pero bihira nating tanungin:
“Okay ka pa ba?”
“May natitira pa ba para sa’yo?”
Here’s the truth:
Helping others shouldn’t mean hurting yourself.
You are allowed to set boundaries.
To say, “Hanggang dito lang muna.”
To build your own foundation,
para ‘pag tumulong ka ulit,
hindi dahil napilitan—kundi dahil kaya mo.
Because debt doesn’t always come from wants.
Minsan, galing ‘yan sa pagmamahal.
Sa responsibilidad.
Sa sobra-sobrang bigay,
kahit ubos ka na.
So to the silent breadwinners:
You are not selfish for wanting to breathe.
You are not wrong for needing rest.
Deserve mo rin ang stability.
Deserve mo rin ang pahinga.
And one day, when you’re in a better place,
you’ll give again—
but this time, not from pressure, but from peace.
