𝐋𝐎𝐎𝐊 | Behold the pioneering seminarians of Immaculate Heart of Mary Seminary captured during their first day of classes at the Cathedral of Saint Joseph of the Diocese of Tagbilaran. Included in the picture was the late Msgr. Cirilo Darunday who became the rector of the seminary in the year 1989-1991.

, Fr. Alphonse Mildner, SVD was appointed as the first rector of the newly established seminary of the Diocese of Tagbilaran. The Society of the Divine Word (SVD) had finally accepted the generous offer of the then Bishop Julio Cardinal Rosales to manage the Seminary. And on June 10, 1950, through the cablegram by the Very Rev. Father General, Fr. Mildner was appointed as the first rector of the newly-to-be-opened Seminary.

For 75 years, without the dedication of the Fr. Mildner who devoted his life in forming aspirant young men for priesthood, the seminary won’t long and endure until today.

𝑫𝒊𝒅 𝒀𝒐𝒖 𝑲𝒏𝒐𝒘?

The Legite is the official publication of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Seminary (IHMS).

At present, the genesis of Legite remains vague as source documents are scarce and possible informants are barely available. However, its history can only be traced back in the 1970s, when the student publication had already been producing newsletters named Legite, but the school publication had not yet been officially named and the publication of the newsletter was sporadic. In the mid-1970s, the school publication and the newsletter were officially named Legite with the help of Mr. Herman Cimafranca, former editor-in-chief and now a lawyer based in the United States.

According to Atty. Cimafranca, the IHMS school publication was named "Legite," withstanding the expectations that school publications are meant to write. "Legite" is the imperative form (“[You] read”) of the Latin verb term “legire” which means “to read.” "Reading is a collective action, whereas writing is exclusive only to few," Atty. Cimafranca explains.

Currently, the Legite is composed of 12 members, signifying the 12 disciples of Christ: editor-in-chief, associate editor, literary editor, sports/news editor, feature editor, photographer, video editor, layout artist/artist, secretary, business manager, circulation manager, and office manager. Accompanying the Legite is its adviser, who is usually an English professor, who supervises the publication.

The "Sal Terrae" or Salt of the Earth which was first published in 1962 was the official newsletter of the high school department. Rev. Msgr. Vicente Nunag Ill was the first editor. A good start Msgr. Nunag.

𝑫𝒊𝒅 𝒀𝒐𝒖 𝑲𝒏𝒐𝒘?

The Seminary's first school organ was "Our Seminary". Its maiden issue came out in August-September, 1950. However, in mid-60's, it became the Seminary's yearbook.
