FORMER REBEL STORY: Alias Singko assumed that his son had been killed in one of the engagements between the Philippine Army and the New People’s Army when he had not heard from him for a considerable period of time. Alias LC, on the other hand, got extremely worried that his father may have been hunted down by the terrorist group when he left the group, as he had not heard from him either. Such was the case until the government forces helped them reconcile.

During their time with the NPA, getting together as a family was a challenge. But finally, after three years of being apart, father and son reunited. Both have nothing but gratitude toward the Philippine Army for giving them the chance to be together once again.

FORMER REBEL STORY: Jocy Villaruel Papasin alias Domai was a ranking NPA leader when her group clashed with the members of the Philippine Army’s 66th Infantry Battalion in Davao Oriental on November 7, 2021. As a result of the encounter, her comrades scampered in various directions, abandoning her, who at the time was five months pregnant. She was immediately given first aid by the troops and subsequently moved to Mati City for further medical evaluation.

Domai admitted that she had considered surrendering in the moments leading up to the encounter due to the difficulties and physical exhaustion she experienced from the unrelenting operations of the government forces. Accordingly, these operations made it impossible for them to hide among the masses who had previously supported them.

The surrender of Domai is considered one of the accomplishments of the National Task Force in Ending Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC) in destroying NPA formations in Davao Oriental.
