Chris Latta, born Christopher Lawrence Latta on August 30, 1949, was an American actor, comedian, and voice actor whose energetic and unforgettable performances helped define 1980s animated television. Often credited as Christopher Collins, he became one of the most recognizable voice talents of the decade thanks to his remarkable vocal range and ability to bring both heroes and villains to life. Although he worked in live-action television and stand-up comedy, it was his animation work that earned him a lasting legacy. He passed away on June 12, 1994, at the age of 44, but his performances continue to be celebrated by fans around the world.
Latta is best remembered as the original voice of Starscream in The Transformers and Cobra Commander in G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero, two of the most iconic villains in cartoon history. His distinctive high-pitched, manic delivery made Starscream the perfect scheming Decepticon, while his shrill, commanding performance as Cobra Commander became synonymous with the character. Beyond these legendary roles, he voiced numerous characters in The Transformers, Visionaries, Inhumanoids, Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends, and was even the original voice of Mr. Burns and Moe Szyslak during the first season of The Simpsons. His unique voice and unmatched intensity left an enduring influence on animation, inspiring generations of voice actors who followed.
