As online scams, cyber threats, cable theft, and telecom equipment vandalism continue to affect millions of Filipinos, a growing movement is calling for ordinary citizens to become part of the solution.

PROTECTA Pilipinas, led by PLDT and supported by key government agencies including the Department of National Defense (DND), Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), and the Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC), is exploring the creation of a volunteer corps dedicated to protecting critical telecommunications infrastructure and strengthening the country's cyber resilience.

Imagine trained volunteers serving as:
👀 The eyes on the ground against cable theft
🛡️ Community defenders against cyber threats
📡 Protectors of critical telecom infrastructure
⚠️ Early warning systems for suspicious activities
🇵🇭 Citizens helping secure the nation's digital future

With the Philippines becoming increasingly dependent on digital services, mobile networks, online banking, e-commerce, fintech, and cloud technologies, cybersecurity is no longer just an IT issue.

It's a national issue.

Countries such as Estonia, Finland, Singapore, Israel, and Ukraine have already integrated civilian participation into their cybersecurity and national resilience programs.

Should the Philippines do the same?

One thing is clear:

💡 Cybersecurity is no longer the responsibility of the government alone.

It is a shared responsibility among citizens, businesses, schools, communities, technology companies, and public institutions.
