THE LOW PRESSURE AREA WEST OF LA UNION HAS DEVELOPED INTO TROPICAL DEPRESSION “MAYMAY”.

The center of Tropical Depression MAYMAY was estimated based on all available data at 130 km West Northwest of Bacnotan, La Union (17.0°N, 119.2°E).

Maximum sustained winds of 55 km/h near the center, gustiness of up to 70 km/h, and central pressure of 1000 hPa
➣Present Movement
Maximum sustained winds of 55 km/h near the center, gustiness of up to 70 km/h, and central pressure of 1000 hPa

Strong winds extend outwards up to 180 km from the center

OTHER HAZARDS AFFECTING LAND AREAS
➣Heavy Rainfall Outlook
Refer to Weather Advisory No. 13 issued at 11:00 PM today for the heavy rainfall outlook due to TC MAYMAY and the Southwest Monsoon.

➣Severe Winds
The wind signals warn the public of the general wind threat over an area due to the tropical cyclone. Local winds may be slightly stronger/enhanced in coastal and upland/mountainous areas exposed to winds. Winds are less strong in areas sheltered from the prevailing wind direction.
• Minimal to minor impacts from strong winds are possible within any of the areas under Wind Signal No. 1.
The highest Wind Signal that may be raised during the passage of MAYMAY is Wind Signal No. 2
The Southwest Monsoon and the periphery of MAYMAY will bring strong to gale-force gusts over the following areas (especially in coastal and upland areas exposed to winds):
• Today and tomorrow (05 August): Most of Luzon and Visayas, Surigao del Norte, Dinagat Islands, Misamis Occidental, Camiguin, Lanao del Norte, Sarangani, Davao Occidental, and Davao Oriental.
• Thursday (06 August): Most of the country.
➣HAZARDS AFFECTING COASTAL WATERS
A Gale Warning is in effect over the western seaboard of Northern Luzon. For more details, refer to Gale Warning No. 1 issued at 11:00 PM today.
24-Hour Sea Condition Outlook
Up to very rough seas over the following coastal waters:
• Up to 4.5 m: The seaboards of Ilocos Sur, La Union, and Pangasinan.
• Sea travel is risky for all types or tonnage of vessels. All mariners must remain in port or, if underway, seek shelter or safe harbor as soon as possible until winds and waves subside.
•
Up to rough seas over the following coastal waters:
• Up to 3.5 m: The seaboard of Zambales; the eastern seaboards of Bataan and Lubang Island.
• Up to 3.0 m: The northern seaboard of Batanes; the eastern seaboard of Davao Oriental.
• Mariners of small seacrafts, including all types of motorbancas, are advised not to venture out to sea under these conditions, especially if inexperienced of operating ill-equipped vessels.
Up to moderate to rough seas over the following coastal waters:
• Up to 2.5 m: The seaboards of Ilocos Norte; the eastern seaboards of Batanes, mainland Cagayan, Isabela, northern Aurora, and Polillo Islands; the northern seaboards of Camarines Norte and Camarines Sur; the northern and eastern seaboards of Catanduanes; the northern and western seaboards of Calamian Islands; the western seaboard of Occidental Mindoro and northern Palawan.
• Up to 2.0 m: The remaining seaboards of Batanes, mainland Cagayan, and Aurora; the seaboards of Babuyan Islands; the northern seaboard of Polillo Islands; the seaboards of Northern Samar; the eastern seaboards of Romblon, Albay, Sorsogon, Eastern Samar, Dinagat Islands, Siargao-Bucas Grande Islands, and Surigao del Sur; the southern seaboard of Davao Oriental; the southeastern seaboard of Davao Occidental; the western and southern seaboards of Masbate; the southern seaboards of Oriental Mindoro and Southern Leyte; the western seaboard of Caluya Islands; the northern and western seaboards of Surigao del Norte; the seaboards of Kalayaan Islands.
• The southern seaboard of Davao Oriental; the southeastern seaboard of Davao Occidental.
• Mariners of motorbancas and similarly sized vessels are advised to take precautionary measures while venturing out to sea and, if possible, avoid navigation under these conditions.
Other coastal waters have forecast wave heights of less than 2.0 m.
TRACK AND INTENSITY OUTLOOK
• It must be emphasized that heavy rainfall and severe winds may still be experienced in localities outside the landfall point and the forecast confidence cone. Refer to “Other Hazards affecting Land Areas” for more details. Furthermore, the track may still shift within the limit of the forecast confidence cone.
• MAYMAY will remain stationary for the next 12 hours before moving eastward and may make landfall over Ilocos Sur or La Union by tomorrow (05 August) afternoon or evening. Afterwards, it will traverse the landmass of Northern and Central Luzon until Thursday (06 August).
• MAYMAY is forecast to intensify while approaching the landmass and may reach tropical storm category in the next 12 hours. After making landfall, MAYMAY will weaken into a tropical depression by Thursday morning and may be downgraded further into a low pressure area by Thursday afternoon or evening.
Considering these developments, the public and disaster risk reduction and management offices concerned are advised to take all necessary measures to protect life and property. Persons living in areas identified to be highly or very highly susceptible to these hazards are advised to follow evacuation and other instructions from local officials. For heavy rainfall warnings, thunderstorm/rainfall advisories, and other severe weather information specific to your area, please monitor products issued by your local PAGASA Regional Services Division.
