Davao City Among the World’s Worst Traffic Congestion Hotspots
LOOK: The latest TomTom Traffic Index highlights a troubling reality for commuters around the globe: traffic congestion is reaching staggering levels. Davao City ranks high on this list with 49% congestion, placing it among the top 3 most congested cities in the world, alongside Mexico City and Bangkok. This means nearly half of every journey in Davao is spent stuck in traffic.
While Southeast Asia’s gridlock reputation is evident, Davao’s placement in this ranking reflects broader urban challenges. The growing number of vehicles, insufficient public transport alternatives, and rapid urbanization are key contributors to the congestion. As a result, Davao's infrastructure and urban planning must adapt swiftly to ensure a sustainable and efficient future for its residents.
The global results from cities like Mexico City (52%) and Bangkok (50%) serve as a reminder of the urgent need for smarter traffic management, better public transportation systems, and innovative solutions to ease daily commutes in Davao and beyond.
