My recent post about the r*pe case of that one content creator has received different opinions—and again, nakita napud nako kung unsa ka baluktot ang sistema and ang atong mga perception when it comes to cases like this.

Truth is, ‘Being a ‘barkadista’ has nothing to do with whether someone can be r***d. Personally, dili ko barkadista, never went to a bar and I don’t drink, pero I really don’t agree with such notion that if someone deviates from your norm, or someone goes out, means they can be harassed already. That is NONSENSE and ABSURD!

From a psychological perspective, comments like this can reflect victim-blaming, our tendency to look for something the victim did wrong because it makes a disturbing event feel more controllable or predictable.

‘Siguro kay sige siyag gawas,’ ‘siguro kay barkadista,’ ‘siguro kay ing-ana siya’—these explanations create the illusion that r**e happens only to people who make ‘wrong’ choices. But sexual violence is about the perpetrator’s decision to violate another person’s autonomy, not the victim’s personality, clothing, social life, or lifestyle.

A person can be outgoing, sexually active, drunk, in a relationship, or simply someone who loves going out, and still have boundaries. None of these automatically equal consent.

As psychology teaches us, understanding behavior means looking beyond assumptions and stereotypes. So instead of asking, ‘Unsa man gud iyang gibuhat?’ ask, ‘Why did someone choose to violate another person’s consent?’ That is where accountability should begin.

Also, The Philippine Commission on Women specifically notes that a victim’s moral character is immaterial in r**e cases, and that r**e can occur regardless of whether the victim is single, married, sexually active, or previously involved with the offender. It also emphasizes that lack of physical resistance should not automatically be interpreted as consent.

It gave me goosebumps. I hope we do better, I pray we do.

I believe one needs to speak about this victim blaming incidents nga pirmi mahitabo. It’s been here for decades and yet ingon ani gihapon ang mindset sa mga ra**st and mga nagatolerate sa ra**st. It puts me at rage gyud

There’s something beautiful about strangers praying for you to win in life.

May you win in ways you never imagined, and may you always remember: someone, somewhere, is rooting for you.
