While it’s true that fake news is a serious problem in the Philippines, it's important to recognize that misinformation can come from many sources — not just politicians.
In the Philippines, the spread of misinformation is a real concern, and sadly, even politicians sometimes contribute to it.
For example, during the KOJC siege, President Marcos Jr. mentioned that no fi****ms were involved. However, live social media footage clearly showed police officers entering with guns, and even Toree was seen carrying a firearm.
While we respect the President’s position, public trust requires that our leaders serve as models of truthfulness. If we want to reduce the spread of fake news, it is important that all public statements, especially from top officials, are consistent with what people can clearly see and verify
